I'm appalled with the low quality standards of the Verkiek paleis. The food taste bland with no promise of flavour and the food is just a mess. They seem to be more interested in being a bar than a takeaway or restaurant.

I gave 2 stars because I had food there once before now that was niceish but today was the complete opposite.Got a curry mince vetkoek, 2 syrup vetkoeks and a large chips.We order of the menu boards on the walls. Nowhere on the boards on the wall does it state the chips would come with vinegar(only on the menu at the till in tiny writing) but weren't even asked if we want it on. I personally do not eat vinegar so I couldnt eat them. They were drenched in oil and were half raw and soggy.(my husband ate them)The curry mince vetkoek had no flavour other than peas. They seem to use tin veggies and you can taste it but the peas were mushed into the mince so it just tasted like peas. Also came with chutney which I don't think was stated anywhere and I have never had a curry mince vetkoek with chutney so it wasn't even a thought that I would have to ask for it not to be put on. Also the bottom of the vetkoek was super soggy and the top with extremely dry.The syrup vetkoek just had too much syrup on and mad the bun soggy as well.Unfortunately I will not be coming here again.

Only bought fries, but I suggest they stick to vetkoek. The chips were oven chips and not very good at all. Besides taking very long - excuse was thay they were understaffed - but I wS only order at the time. Tasted stale and I suspect they had been fried before. Certainly won't buy fries there again.

The curry mince had the texture of oat porridge and tasted awful. I ended up giving it to the dog. The chips were half raw and seasoned with a salty spice which tasted unpleasant.

Best Vetkoek, I've had in a while. I would recommend the Steak cheese & mushroom sauce Vetkoek or the Chicken Mayo Bacon. Value for your money & the friendliest service from the staff.

I remember when this business was the center of the local community and the food was fantastic. Now the food lost its taste and its a fraction of what it originally was. I wont recommend the Vetkoek Paleis.

UPDATE: Stepped in a few times in the last few months and it seems like the atmosphere is lit up more and smells better. It looks friendlier.- - - -It used to be a fun and pleasant place to go to, but the standards went down in the last few months. Yesterday I went there, and I could only smell cigarette smoke inside the restaurant - It would be nice to smell food cooking instead. The place looks dull and uninviting with the lack of menus on the wall, and the lack of lighting. I won't be returning there any time soon.
