Worst hospitality experience in South Africa everI`m sorry but I cannot share good experiences of this estate.Obviously after 2 years of Covid you are lacking a impression of missing enthusiasm, motivation and spirit in every corner of the hotel.It ended up in a shocking experience with the owner at check out.But in a row....My wife and I booked one night in this place, while the booking call with the owner lady ?? I mentioned that we would arrive late and have to leave quite early after breakfast.In the evening again I asked the staff for breakfast time, got the info, it is starting at 7.30am and I said it suits for us.We came at 7.35 and.... not even the restaurant was open, let alone a buffet or other things. Nobody was there. Not a minimum of preparation.Suddenly the owner came and asked what we are looking for and said “ IT`s really early for breakfast and yeah, we have to wait until everything is going prepared. He said: “ That is Africa. “We have been living in SA for a few years as well and are not just tourists.I told him, no, this is a 5star hotel, you call it luxury estate and you are Dutch and have been in SA for a long time and should know the requirements of a 5 star hotel.I told him, that we have to leave in 30 minutes because I`ll have meetings later in Cape Town.Out of nowhere he completely freaked out, started shouting, insulting me, throw his keys... ( among other things I have to tell him if I want to have breakfast so early!!! I did it and it was the official breakfast time and not 6.00 in the morning.I`m not responsible for the poor management at this place, for his frustration and tiredness and burned out symptoms. He shouted “ I`m so tired next year I`ll finish anyway. “I expected at least some appreciation after paying a few thousand rand for accommodation and dinner and can really expect a prepared breakfast at public time.My wife and I are in customer related businesses as well, with such behaviour all clients would run away immediately.Swellendam has many opportunities to stay, this one should be avoided.

Exceptional. Wonderful service with attention to detail and beautiful presented culinary dishes in the restaurant. The Spa facilities were wonderful, the beauty therapists are truly gifted. Beautiful tendered gardens with an impressive birdlife. Highly recommended!

A wonderful place to rest in Swellendam. Suitable for families, couples and honeymooners. De Kloof has a very sophisticated touch of luxury in every room with a stunning gardens. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the friendly reception staff. Would definetely recommend this hotel to everybody! It's a true sample of excellent hospitality. 1000% recommended!

This really is a beautiful relaxing retreat in the old heart of swellendam overlooking the valley. Magnificent gardens and historic buildings from 1800s with plenty of safe parking. Most professionally managed and presented by the owners and staff. Within easy reach of spectacular walks and safe mountain trails. Town centre, interesting shops and restaurants all nearby.

We had a lovely stay at The Retreat. The house has everything you need. It's a short walk to the town centre. The Retreat has an awesome swimming pool and offers plenty of other things to do, like TRE and Yoga.

I had a marvelous and very welcoming stay in this Lodge. I love the pool area, the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Enjoyed breakfast on the terrace while the two resident owls were watching us. For me this place that I have visited several times is just so peaceful and ticks all the boxes. Will be back…

My Husband and I booked a Spa Special this past weekend. I felt the COVID gloom hovering over the establishment.When you see ***** - you expect that kind of treatment. You could clearly see the cost cutting, no stock in the Bar Fridge, Replenishment of Biscuits, coffee, milk for the morning?When calling reception for assistance, no one answers? The “Hot Tub” experience was lukewarm with slippery sides and grit at the bottom. More love and attention to the startup of the KolKol Tub is in order, as well as better quality wood. We asked for a bottle of bubbles from service, they bring a warm bottle with hardly any ice in the bucket? On check out, as part of the “package” a car wash was included, to be told sorry our Porter is off on Sundays - guess what...hubby was now Porter carrying all our luggage to the car, never mind his slip disc!?I feel like my money went into a recovering hotel and it’s not our fault COVID happened. But we are now level 1 and there is no excuse for such poor attention to detail and no loving feel to clients who are there to support you.Unfortunately - I am not going to recommend De Kloof, and I am very surprised that they still have a 5star rating - it felt more like a 3 star experience.We live and learn...

My two days at De Kloof Luxury Spa was nothing but amazing. The service was a 10/10 and I would recommend this to anyone without hesitating. The food was an absolute delight and the all the staff were polite and welcoming. The view from my suite was out of this world. It was my first time in Swellendam and the getaway along with the staff definitely made me feel welcome.Thank you so much De Kloof Luxury Estate.
