they do sell books, but mostly white and afrikaans material. guy in the shop said he never heard the names of the authors that i was looking for, even though they literally have streets named after them. Theres no social sciences shelf, need to boost up a section on african literature and educate themselves more on the theme

Really great 2nd hand book store with some hidden gems! Prices are SO reasonable - all books are in good condition. The lady at the counter knows exactly where everything is that you could possibly be looking for. She was friendly and informative. If you want to sell them books, they do not offer cash but rather store credit (honestly, I think this is a wonderful incentive to clear out some space on those dusty shelves at home an instead, fill them with exciting new-ish books that can light the fire within you to start reading again or for those who never stopped, to continue reading and learning).

I've been coming to this book store for years and years, today I went and I was met with an extremely unfriendly new face at the front desk. This last could barely even great my friend and I, and when we had finally picked out some books to buy my friend asked if I could take a picture of her surrounded by the books, as I did the lady told us to either buy something or leave, and to not forget that we are in a pandemic and not a photo studio, this said by a woman who wasn't wearing a mask and who didn't sanitize us as we entered. I felt extremely humiliated, as though I was a child being scolded. I left without buying my books and I'll no longer visit this shop until another staff member works there. It really is such a shame that they've lost a customer due to rudeness!

I have always loved this little bookstore. There are amazing little gems in there and I adore old books. The lady at the front desk is great, always chats with me and often sends me customized book recommendations to set aside if Id like them later, which I appreciate so much. The online store is also great. It can be a little cramped in store if its busy and you cant sit and have a read, but that's ok. I recommend it to those looking for vintage books with that authentic book store feel.

Had the pleasure of visiting this store. The owners were extremely friendly and even showed me around the store explaining how the books were categorized. They have a diverse variety of books for all topics. The books are reasonably priced and in excellent condition despite being secondhand. Would definitely be visiting again.

This is the only place worth going to in Melville, which has sadly deteriorated dramatically since my last visit. The book shop though, is a genuinely authentic representation of what a book shop should be, even with it's own resident cat reclining gingerly on the wares! Wonderful is all I can say & an amazing variety of titles & genres.

The Earth Children books are fantastic. Couldn't find them anywhere except at Melville books

I usually have to bind my hands when I go here. The jewels I’ve picked up is unbelievable! The store’s range of books - from classic English to classic Afrikaans - is the main attraction for me. The staff are friendly and willing to assist you. Definitely one of my favourite places in Melville.

Spoke last week Friday to a lady on the phone, saying they buy second hand books on Wednesday's. Went there on the 22nd of March. First the lady that was there, without saying hello or greeting, just like the children of today that doesn't greet, asked with a tone in her voice, just like if I am a petulant schoolchild 'Who told you to bring those books here!' After explaining the story my wife and I were shunned. No wonder they aren't selling a lot of books.
