Took part in the JMC 38km 2022 - amazing event. Very well planned and organised and the Wildrunner team certainly went out of their way to help me. Have now just returned from The Namibia Crossing - truly remarkable event. Very professional in every regards. Thank you Wildrunner Team for everything, Can't wait for the next one.

When any athlete plans their race calendar they will usually select race that cater to their strengths, take them to new places or challenge their abilities.Months ago I was faced with a decision: George MUT or the new 53km JMC route.I love George and have always enjoyed racing there. I did however have to weigh up the financial implications of traveling, accommodation, etc.So I was excited to see that a race was finally being hosted literally in my backyard- up and over the Stellenbosch mountain. (This was of course before the Finale FullSend route had been unveiled).Purely for that reason I opted not to do the George MUT and pay R1395 for a JMC Ultra entry. (Advertised with a 3200m Vert gain).38km R995At midday Thursday the 19th May, we received our first communications from Wild Runner, with the race Intel for JMC 2022. In the email 53km athlete were told that we were going through PRIVATE LAND, and that we should be respectful to the land owners. (No mention of route changes!)The follow morning - less than 21 hours before stepping into the shoot a route was sent to the 53km runners. The email stated that the route has been “slightly adjusted”. The result: the first 20+kilometers of the race were either on tar, vineyards, the occasional cycling track and my favorite... long grindy MTO forestry roads leading you up towards Saaltjie (running past tractors and felled logs). Before starting the race early on Saturday morning, the race organizers told runners that they hadn’t gotten access to Stellenbosch mountain from Cape Nature, hence the route change. If that were to be the case: I would recommend one first applies for permission before advertising a route and taking people’s money (and not offering refunds). The long and the short of it is: if I had known this in advance, I would have entered the 38km “Mountain” run and not paid and extra R500 just to have distance made up on routes I run weekly. My final elevation on Saturday after 54,5km’s - 1594m (less than half).Whilst I was speaking to a fellow runner out on the field, she told me she had entered the JMC Ultra with the 3000m elevation, in prep for the George MUT. She too was very disappointed.I basically just had to get over myself, slogging through the first 25km’s to finally reach my happy space - the mountains.
