Klein River Cheese Factory (Picnics closed, Shop moved to Birkenhead Brewery)

Perfect little place with kids. Set up is beautiful...neat and tidy with good shade and obviously great cheese and other eats. Highly recommended.

A fantastic family-friendly farmstead where kids can interact with animals, as well as have a ball in the play area. Enjoy reasonably priced picnics that feature the farm cheeses and artisanal breads. A gem close to Stanford / Hermanus.

BEWARE. We purchased their cheese box having a collection of cheeses but were thoroughly disappointed. The Raclette cheese does not taste anything like the real Swiss or French Raclette. In fact, there is hardly any difference in taste between the Raclette, Gruberg and Colby when melted.We managed to find a Fromagerie in Franschhoek on the corner of Hugenote and Louis Botha streets that stocks French Raclette which has the characteristic smell and taste I was looking for. My preference though is the Swiss Raclette which is more pungent and has more flavour than the French version.Unfortunately we will not be buying from Klein River again. Apart from the cheese not being authentic, it is overpriced for what you get.

Really great place for family or friends to visit. Massive lawn, trees, seating areas etc. Good prices and wide selection of cheese, meat etc from the Deli. Great kiddies meals and a fantastic play area that's completely enclosed. Highly recommended for going out for a lazy picnic with friends or family.

We found this little family friendly farm where kids can run around, feed the animals and ride some. The grown ups can eat, drink and make merry of course. This remote area filled with activities is ideal for a weekend getaway and chances of you being flagged down and breathalysed are next to none. Drink responsibly all the same for the temptation is very strong in this wine valley set in the Overberg.

I have been in this cheese farm a couple of times (3-4 times) and I get more enchanted every time. The facilities are incredibly well maintained, the peaceful environment is ideal for a day with family, friends or just to be alone and enjoy the nature or work on your computer without being interrupted.The pets around the farm are friendly and, what to say about the personnel... Attentive, charming, professional and willing to go above and beyond to make your staying more comfortable. Special shout-out to the one of the managers, Johan! He makes you feel that you're his only center of attention, even when they're more people around.Definitely I will keep coming back and I commend this place to everyone looking for doing something different from the routine and to build a new home outside of your home. Keep it up with the good job!! :D

Beautiful mountain view, artisanal bread and cheese and wine, packed in a basket and off you meander closer to the mountain for a delicious outdoor picnic, can laze around on the lawns....and eat your fill of Kleinriver gourmet cheeses

Excellent family outing, perfect for small children. Great playground. Large outside lawn. Goats, chickens etc. Good location and last but not least. Great cheese and bread washed down with regional wine.
