Zwakala River retreat
What a beautiful place!we stayed in the Honey house and i just want to live here forever, had the best time exploring,birding, hiking in the forests and next to the river, so peaceful and quiet but yet so alive!!I will be back very soon!!

The place is nice but we didn’t have hot water the enter weekend, we told Michelle and she didn’t even bother sending someone to assist us with hot water.

The Honey cottage is beautiful! Off the grid. So romantic and cosy. Like something out of a movie.Just be aware that if you are in there Honey cottage you can hear the music from the brewery until about 10 in the evening. The cottages further down only hear the river. A much better option. But as mentioned- Honey cottage is beautiful with the best shower

Zwakala River retreat
Beautiful area, very serene and quaint. Accessibility a bit of an issue if roads are very wet unless you have an SUV (4x4 not necessary but definitely a good way to go here). Cellphone coverage very dodgy. Lush forests and close proximity to a river for swimming makes it a lovely little getaway for families or friends looking to get off the grid a bit.

My partner and I had the pleasure of staying here for a few days and oh my, I couldn’t have loved it any more than I did. A perfect stay-away with lots of rustic charm. Very comfortable. The location is stunning and close to places to explore and spend time at. Including the Zwakala brewery. Will definitely come back here!

Zwakala River retreat
The campsite is huge, with ample shade and the setting is absolutely fabulous. The Haenertsberg/Magoebaskloof is beautiful. If you are looking for peace, quiet and privacy, look no further. The owner is very friendly, and checked on us every morning, he kindly rushed home and lent a blanket to us, as we did not expect it to be so cold towards the end of September. The Zwakala Brewery is very popular during the weekends, note that it is closed Mon-Thursday. However, at R500 per night, this campsite is not cheap, therefore expecting the facilities to be in top condition. The bathroom definitely needs attention, a window pane is missing, and both the basins are loose, no longer attached to the wall. With a little TLC, the bathroom section could be totally adequate although still very rustic. Another great added bonus would be solar lights at the bathroom and the kitchen as it is pitch dark at night (knowing that you require your own solar/lighting) Note, that you most definitely require a 4x4 and offload trailer. Also, it would be great if the boma is cleaned daily, and, not every third day only. We did not trust the river water, and bought our water.

We were blown away by the beauty of the area and couldn't have asked for a more comfortable and cozy cottage. The hosts Rob and Denise, made our stay even more memorable by looking after us so well. We look forward to our next visit!
