Magellan's Hotel - Simons Town
Everything is off about this place and we left 30 min after checking in as we couldn't stand it here. I dont know how to describe our distaste of the hotel except to say that is smelled like the entire hotel was cleaned using doom spray. Way over priced and would not stay here for free.

Cringeworthy! The photos on their website look very nice and at first glance the rooms seem to be fine....until you start to settle in. I was grossed out when I opened the cupboard to find two old, dirty worn out pairs of slippers staring at me. Next I noticed that the bathroom floor had hair all over and the same with the shower. Now I had to check the bed and sure enough found some hair in it as well. The duvet cover had never seen an iron before or it was never changed from the previous guest. The towels also had hairs on them. The balcony chair was broken and could not be used. The chair in front of the dresser was so dirty and full of stains you don’t even want to sit on it. But the cherry on the cake with this place was when I found the previous guest’s little love notes against the shower walls. Apparently Doug enjoyed his stay there, as for me, not so much. I won’t be returning, nor would I refer anyone.

1 star for location near Boulder beach. But hotel is on top of mountain so the walk is not a nice one for little kids.1 star for friendly staff & a clean roomRoom was stuffy as it had no air conditioning & no windows. There’s a door that you can open and let air in along with dirt & leaves from outside. The floor was covered in dirt every morning. There is no restaurant in hotel as advertised. Maybe there was in the past, but there’s no place to eat nearby except 20 min walk into town. There’s frequent blackouts which are normal in Cape Town & surrounding areas, but this is not normal if you a tourist visiting for the first time. The hotel should inform visitors about these daily power blackouts & provide guidance.Unless you are planning to hang out at penguin beach everyday, avoid this hotel & location.

A little bit off. Liked it because of familiarity, living in a home feeling
