Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa

Quite possibly the best place we have ever stayed in, and we’ve stayed in a few fab places! Being given our own water bottles at pick up, then a fab hour long game drive to get to the lodge, was a great start! On arrival the staff came out and sang to us their welcome which brought tears to my eyes. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite which was beautiful, spotless and comfortable, in a clean and modern style. Meals were of the quality you’d get in top city restaurants - an amazing achievement considering the remote location! The staff at the lodge were so lovely - friendly, warm, attentive but not overly pushy or intrusive. The gym had an incredible view for a workout. Kids activities were fab - our daughter did pellet gun shooting and track moulding. One evening we had some time on the star gazing deck which was incredible.Our two highlights……The pool is beautifully warm, slightly salty & free from chemicals. This means the elephants love to come and have a drink!! We were lucky enough to witness this a few times and to be in the water while it happened. Truly unforgettable and very very special.Our second highlight was the game drives, and in particular our guide Tegan. The drives were full of exciting sightings, and the terrain is varied & beautiful. Lion, cheetah, hippo, giraffe, brown hyena, zebra, elephants, and so much more, including many varied bird species. The lodge arranged a number of surprises on the drives - I won’t spoil them by giving details! Tegan was just incredible - her knowledge, energy, enthusiasm, and passion shone through, and her connection & care for our daughter made a mega fan for life!!Thank you SO much - we hope to one day be back!! xx

My daughter and I began our South African adventure at Mhondoro. That is after flying in to Joburg and then taking a most wonderful drive to the reserve. Everything was new and exciting! On one of the evenings while having a fabulous dinner in the boma with all of the guests - I turned to my almost 32 year daughter and told her that I most likely had just experienced one the very best days of my life. It was very emotional. I was at this most amazing reserve with her - being treated so beautifully by the staff and guests, seeing all of the animals, and taking in the South African land, sun, moon, stars and air!Our guide, Andrew, was beyond amazing. His depth of knowledge and excitement about the bush was contagious! He kept us yearning to learn more. We were always the last to arrive back at the lodge after the evening drive. Why? Because Andrew kept the level of adventure turned up until we had to go home".Chefs Betty and Simon and kitchen team prepared the MOST gorgeous and healthy meals.Lodge staff was incredible - everyone!Oh how wonderful it would be to return!!!"

We had the most wonderful honeymoon at Mhondoro where we stayed for three nights.Everything from the service, game drives [huge shoutout to Biggie who was more than wonderful], location and atmosphere was exceptional and a once in a lifetime experienceFor nature enthusiasts we saw the Big 5 and managed to have some breathtakingly close encounters with the beautiful Rhinos and Lions. There’s a clear focus on sustainability and the animals seems naturally protected.Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so special!

We loved Mhondoro! It was an all around 5-star experience. The game drives were excellent. The lodge was impeccable and food and service were outstanding. We loved our guide Tegan she was very knowledgeable. The servers Oupa, Isaac and Timmy made us feel so welcome.

We stayed two nights in Mhondoro. It appeared to be three days we will never forget. What a great place this is...Everything is being done for highest guest-satisfaction, with highest respect for nature. I have never seen a place where they had such high sustainability levels, with all electricity from own solar power, own water purification systems, etc.Very kind staff; highly qualified rangers (extremely useful and interesting during the game drives); I loved the hidden area at the waterplace where you sit so close to the animals (I really didn't want to go to bed); the swimming pool where elephants can drink from; the star gazing facilities; the food; the villa we had, etc. Well, it's a piece of paradise, and yes, highly recommended, and we will certainly go back.

We can highly recommend Mhondoro for an authentic, fun family bush break in a malaria-free area. If you want to see the Big 5 in their natural environment, this is the place to go. Luxury in a relaxed and friendly setting enhances the Mhondoro experience, coupled with delicious, healthy meals; super friendly and efficient service; comfortable and spacious accommodation (including private pools!); a great little spa; exciting safaris guided by knowledgeable rangers and even breathtaking stargazing. Just wow!

The perfect holiday retreat in astonishing nature and wild life, delicious food (also very good vegetarian/vegan options) and very kind and qualified staff! We spent 4 nights here and did not want to leave.Everything met at least our expectations and even exceeded them a lot of times! The Game Reserve offers a huge variety of landscape and animals.

What an amazing lodge! The best experience ever. Thank you to all the friendly staff and the guide. The food was out of this world!
