FeatherFoot Horses

Worst experience of my life. Guide had no control, horses behaved irrationally and bolted towards where they could get food. Guide was thrown and stood on. Makes me wonder if they are properly cared for and fed.

My niece and I experienced a fantastic ride at FeatherFoot. Horses are matched to your level of competency and the horses are in good health and very friendly. Marty made our ride thoroughly enjoyable and both he and his wife are lovely people who make you feel right at home. The ride is just long enough to prevent butt aches and pains for the novice rider and you walk by the sea and through a stunning nature reserve. Beautiful scenery and a river crossing to boot. I would recommend FeatherFoot to all my friends especially those who are new to the saddle. What a joyful and memorable experience. Marty is in no rush during your outing and can assess your level of competency from the outset so to be matched to your perfect mount be honest from the outset and you wont be disappointed but rather excited during your outing. There is no pressure to gallop etc and you can enjoy a leisurely walk with your horse if you are a novice. An awesome ride and I will definitely return. Very expensive for the ride you get. Only 5 minutes on the beach. The guide took 20 minutes to introduce herself and seemed pretty disinterested in us, despite it being my birthday. I had to ask her her name, and she spent much of the ride on the phone.

Hilmary is an incredibly knowledgeable and patient teacher! My wife and I started lessons 6 months ago and we absolutely love the lessons and the long out rides on the beach. The horses are really well trained and in immaculate condition! I highly recommend a lesson or trail with FeatherFoot!!

We had a wonderful experience with Featherfoot. We got to walk on the beach and through the nature reserve, cross through a river, and all four of us had a wonderful time. As a complete beginner, I was very nervous, but was helped in every way possible and ended up having a lovely time.

My friend and I decided to take the 2 hour beach and bush ride which in itself was a beautiful path. Also the lady that runs the ranch was lovely and very kind. However, my friend and I were not happy with the experience we had.I have ridden before and am fairly experienced when it comes to horses but my friend isn’t and was nervous about going faster than walking pace while I wanted to try and reach a canter and we said as much when we were asked about what type of horses we’d like. We however recieved horses that were opposite of what suited us. Now I completely understand that the animals have minds of their own and they decide on how fast they want to go and that’s fine, the problem was that once we were on the trail, our guide told us that the horse my friend was on was a thoroughbred and loved to go fast while mine was slower. So when I wanted to go a bit faster, my horse resisted and her horse took off down the beach at almost a gallop. Not to mention that our guide gave her no direction on how to properly sit in the saddle at a trot so she didn’t fall off which left me trying to coach her through it.It also didn’t help that our guide was in his phone 90% of the 2 hours and only made conversation with us when he asked our opinion on whether or not he should invest his money in a sketchy get-rich-quick scheme. These are all things that were awful but what I found most annoying was that the saddles weren’t what I would call real saddles. Instead of the typical western-style leather saddle that I would expect on a bush trail, we were given what I would say resembled a toilet seat that was moulded into the shape of a saddle with a hole in the middle. It was so uncomfortable and not to mention that the stirrups cut across our calves in such a way than after the ride, both my friend and I had deep bruises along both of our shins from the stirrup strap cutting into them (something that doesn’t happen on a proper saddle because of necessary flaps that protect your legs). Overall these are all things I think could be rectified easily enough but for our own experience, it was not something I enjoyed or would do again.

Wonderful experience for our 4 year old daughter. Lovely area to horse ride. Well set up, animals in good condition and neat, clean housing. Extremely friendly people that run the place.
