High Constantia Wine Cellar
Stunning wines. A great MCC with over 4 years on lees. Lovely oaked Sauvignon Blanc which was savoury but balanced. All the reds were great with special call-outs to the Cab Franc and Bordeaux blends. A lovely working tasting room amongst the wines. Proper boutique winery with no pretentions.Main complaint was that it was cash only, which seems a bit strange in this day and age.

My experience didn't entail purchasing wine per se, but more of a personal matter. None the less, on meeting the owner Dave we were treated to an impromptu tour. Wow.. Simply amazing wine farm, from the history of French oak barrels and how they tie up with different grapes, to his bottling process, where recycling is of high importance. We were taken through the plant where his wine is matured, and given a highly informative description of the process from grape to wine. We were taken through his magical vineyards where we even had an opportunity to pick strawberries. My better half was in heaven. The venue is available for weddings, private functions and do not forget the main purpose, tours and tastings. Hard to believe that living literally 200 metres from him this was my first visit. A man of the soil, Dave, has a high zest for life and is master winemaker. Highly recommended for anyone.

We have been trying to visit this Boutique Cellar for some time and so glad we managed to catch them open.Beautiful setting overlooking a little dam with ducks, whitknobbed coot and a few other birds. The ladies was so attentive and always made sure everyone was happy. The Wine on the other hand was definitely interesting. I'm more for a white wine and were able to taste 3x lovely wines. My favorite was the Champagne. My husband was spoiled with a 2013 Merlot and a 2013 Cabernet Franc and to end off with the Sabastian blend. Really complex and interesting nose.Unfortunately there was nothing available for the kids to drink and nothing to go with your wine.None the less I am sure we will be back when we are in the area.Like the one lady said :we don't taste here we drink the wine""

High Constantia is a boutique wine farm situated in the famous Constantia Valley in Cape Town. The farm’s history dates back as far as 1693 when it formed part of the Dutch East India Company outpost, Wittebomen, referring to the silver-leaved trees.During the 1800s the farm was owned by the Van Reenen family, bought from William Duckitt. Van Reenen was known as a great businessman and wine farmer and in 1824 was producing wines on par to rival the famous Groot Constantia and Hoop-op-Constantia. Records from the 1800s describe High Constantia as a great place visit and buy wine en route from Simonstown to Cape Town, as described in visitor’s books now kept in the Cape Town Archives.High Constantia offers wine sales along with a wine tasting experience on their peaceful property overlooking a dam. When I went for wine tasting, they had 4 beautiful red wines available: Sebastiaan, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz.High Constantia was a relaxing experience where I could taste wines at my leisure and enjoy the historic atmosphere and friendly staff.
