Hans Merensky Hotel and Spa
This accommodation is by far the worst I have had to experience in my entire life and we lay our blame with both Lekkeslaap and the Hans Merensky “hotel” and “spa”. I cannot express how extremely dilapidated this entire place is.We did not enjoy a moment at this place, we suffered through it for long enough and actually left a day early.1. The receptionist is not present and has no idea that we are checking in, despite the fact that we are literally the only guests at the entire hotel.2. Felt extremely unwelcome. Checking takes 20 – 25mins as the receptionist had seemingly no idea that we were arriving.3. Arrive at room. Lawn, grass and garden is completely un-kept. It is clear that no gardening has been done for months. Large biting ants swarm your legs when you exit the vehicle and every time you step on any grass.4. Scuff marks all over room. Wooden doors leading to veranda does not open properly as the wood has been rotted.5. Shower door and shower does not align. After every shower the entire bathroom is flooded with water. Water leaks at back of basin and onto clothes.6. The place is overrun by extremely aggressive monkeys. Can not enjoy sitting outside on veranda due to swarms of ants, monkeys, bugs, overgrown garden and grass.7. Aesthetically the entire place is just horrible. Half built buildings, building rubble un-kept gardens and roads, green mucky water in unused fountains, paint peeling off buildings. It is clear that no maintenance has been done for an extremely long time.8. Bar and restaurant closed. No staff around except for cleaners. The place is a ghost town and we seemed to be the only staying guests. Staff did not think to provide us with anything and we had to buy plastic cutlery to use.9. The pool is blue but the pool area is a mess. Bottle caps and rubbish lying around. No pillows on furniture which just lays around everywhere sun beaten. Found a frog in the pool and two spiders, the entire surface of the pool is full of bugs. Could not swim for longer than 5mins before finding something disgusting and getting out.I believe it to be extremely irresponsible for the Hans Merensky Hotel to even allow guests to stay at this point. The place is absolutely atrocious. They can not cater for people. The accommodation is falling apart. There is literally nothing to do except sit outside the pool area and play golf. List of numerous activities on their website but you can not do any of them.I believe it to be extremely irresponsible for Lekkeslaap to advertise the hotel on their site. Lekkeslaap is providing a platform for the hotel to scam people. This is not the first time we made a booking through Lekkeslaap and had a bad experience with subpar accommodation.I do not use the word scam lightly but I mean it thoroughly. If you peruse the photos on their website and that of Lekkeslaap the impression of a lavish hotel is created. It is a severe misrepresentation and they are fully aware what the current abhorrent state of the place is. The responsible thing would be to remove all photos or put up a disclaimer saying: Please take notice literally nothing on our website is true anymore.I can not stress enough that the entire place (except for the reception area) is completely run down and a wasteland. As mentioned above, if Lekkeslaap wishes to provide a platform for these places they have a responsibility to ensure that what is advertised is true. The decay at the Hans Merensky hotel most certainly did not happen overnight or even in this last year. The level of decay makes it clear that is has been years and years and years. Should Lekkeslaap not check up on these places?Zero stars, what an absolutely abhorrent place and a horrible experience, it was daylight robbery. I will also never use Lekkeslaap again.

Luxurious self catering despite some issues. We tried the self catering and had a great weekend of living close to nature. Hans Merensky went bust a while ago but they still have a great getaway next to the Kruger Park. The resort seems to have been too big for its market - I'm guessing the long distances to travel from major cities don't bring the travellers and conference delegates.Everything is in a scale too grand for the bush...the concept makes no sense, just check out the pictures in other posts of the conference venue. The architect who designed this should be fired and the resort should demolish the ridiculous wooden structures and front entrance pyramid and plant some plants instead. That said the resort is beautifully laid out even if you aren't a golfer, and we spent a day waking in the gardens watching hippos, crocodiles, saw a snake and other estate game. Be careful of all of the above. The chalet was luxurious, well decorated, with daily servicing and even a dishwasher so we just loaded the plates. Our home for the 3 nights comfortably sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms with comfortable poster beds (overkill!), each with its own private en suite bathroom. Lounge extra comfortable in an open plan thatch design that goes way above holiday cottage standards. Outdoor patio faces a small swimming pool which needed a few more chemicals, but we enjoyed the kettle barbecue. A small pond nearby brought plenty of wildlife. Vervet monkeys came to disturb us but once they got the picture there's nothing for them but shouting, they went away. Finally, as it was spring time we just missed the insect invasion that comes in summer.Advice - don't stay there except on a busy weekend as it cam feel a bit isolated unless there's other residents.A weekend stay at Hans Merensky is best for a Kruger Park holiday as there is not much else to do in Phalaborwa. If you want a few days of game viewing rather stay in the park itself but obviously not living in such grand style. We packed in a day's park visit from 8 to 5 which you would probably spread over 2 days if you spent that time in park.If Hans Merensky can fix up their communications - phone numbers were unreachable on the night of our arrival and we got lost amd the Google map for the hotel is 100% wrong - they can definitely be a place worth visting.

0 stars if I could. Suzette assisted us. Absolutely shocking! We booked a round of golf and they cahrged us full price of R1000. We arrived only to find out that the place is under liquidation! After about 10min we managed to find someone who organised a cart for us. The cart was half charged. After 9 holes we had to swop carts and the obly one that was available had a medium to flat tyre. There was no coffee of food available, as the place is pretty much non existing. It has now been almost 3 days since we havee asked to be refunded and Suzette is so unhelpfull and rude. Apparently the owner will refund me... I have heard nothing! Stay as far away as possible.

It has lost some of its glory but still an amazing place to stay. I feel the golf is extremely overpriced for what you are getting but it is a testing yet fun course

It's quiet, adventures and safe. The only problem is the monkey infestation, there's too much monkeys which disturb peace.

One of the worst places i have ever stayed at. They say WIFI, but nothing works. First night food was supossed to be ready at 18:30, only ready after many excuses at 19:10. Then the food is of so bad quality... toughest meat ever, burnt patatoes and when asked about the lumpy custard i get told its fine like it is. Next morning, no water. They knew about it from 1am i am told, but no plan is made until i complained at 6:20. We will boil water for you sir pls give us 15 minutes" i can honestly say this is the last time they will see me as a client. The long term guests have the best food ready at 17:00. And best of all.... not even a bottle of water in the room had to use sprite to brush my teeth with....so pathetic."

By far one of the most refreshing hotels to visit in Limpopo around the Phalaborwa area. Also very cost effective. The place is so beautiful surrounded by the forever beautiful mother nature. There's an amazing and spacious pool area with tall trees and green grass. Just behind the eating area which is just near the pool there's an amazing golf course that's so huge and offered beautiful views of the horizon. And also, there are some nice monkey friends there by the golf course.
