Lang Elsie's Kraal Rest Camp
The Lang Elsie's Kraal Rest Camp at the Bontebok National Park is truly a hidden gem. Having never been there before, I didn't know what to expect, but now I can't wait to go back. En-route from the park reception to the rest camp you pass a number of activities such as hiking and MBT routes as well as some fishing spots. The road to the camp is gravel however it is in a very good condition. The camp is a decent size with camping sites (powered) and chalets spread around and then an additional area down by the river for camping (no power available). We camped at one of the powered sites and I was impressed to see how large the sites are, as well as the fact that most sites are divided by beautiful shrubbery giving you some privacy as well. In the center of the camp you will find the ablutions and kitchenette area which were fully kitted with stoves, basins and boilers for hot water. If you decide to camp down by the river at one of the unpowered camping sites, please note that although it is very beautiful, there aren't ablution facilities down there so you'll need to use the same ones as the other camp sites, which from the riverside is quite a bit of a walk up a steep road. Also, because the road to the river is so steep you aren't allowed to camp there with a caravan. All the facilities were cleaned daily and the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. One of the highlights for me was the fact that the camp isn't fenced, allowing animals to walk around in the park and we had numerous close encounters with Bontebok as well as one special (but scary) encounter with a Boomslang. From the camp there are multiple hiking trails and the routes you can drive are close by, easy to find and have lots of animal sightings including the Bontebok which the park is named after.

Lang Elsie's Kraal Rest Camp
Leveled camping sites with light, electricity and water. Some with good shading from trees. Cottages have river views.Clean, well maintained ablutions.Bontebok and tortoises roam through the stands 'cutting' grass.Staff are not too friendly.Flies, mosquitos and muggies are a big problem and spoiled our visit.

Lang Elsie's Kraal Rest Camp
One of our favourite campsites. We were a bit disappointed in the cleanliness of the ablutions, but Thandi (the manager) came to visit us personally and do an inspection. She apologised and got things sorted. Well done. The weekend arrived and we had some noisy neighbours who got up at 6 and the unruly kids made a huge racket. Other than that, we had a fabulous stay.

Lang Elsie's Kraal Rest Camp
We were camping in our caravan. The campsites are spacious and fantastic. The campsite was totally booked out. To our amusement, the ablutions coped" with all the campers. 24/7 hot water was a winner. Suggestion: a raised wooden shower "step" to allow one to step out of the shower onto a "raised shower step" and not directly on the concrete floor
