We made the crossing at low tide and went across with no issues. The Otter trail was beautiful

was so hipped to get there , with all the breath taking scenery , was fortunate to also spend enough time to walk all over the river mouth and take a swim cause the tide was out for a long time , but well worth one of the highlights of the Otter Trail.

Always be prepared for the most difficult crossing. We expected to walk across without any challenge but it proved to be a challenging cross, what an experience though

Every Otter Trail Hiker dreads the Bloukrans River Crossing. But it is great fun. And scaling the cliff once you are across is even more so.It is a stiff distance to travel, but everyone on our team made it to the river in time for low tide. Imagine our surprise when the wind picked up and started blowing the ocean up river!

Getting down to the river, across and up the cliff on the other side was possibly the scariest, most difficult thing I have done in 55 years and many hikes, but so worth it. I would never have been able to do it without an amazing bunch of fit, young hikers to help me. Choose your team wisely.

The highlight of doing the Otter, if only for the degree of concern it creates amongst the team. Arrived 15 min after low tide and walked over without issue. Interesting how the sand bar shifts over time, changing the shallow and deep water points in the crossing. Looking from above, the lighter water colour clearly shows the shallower crossing point. One must note the presence of underwater rocks that become exposed by shifting sand affecting your footing.

Wild river mouth, caught at spring low, if you get the chance... Go go go.
