Soul Barrel Brewing

One of those hidden gems, make sure you visit them. Friendly helpful people...and the beers are great!!!!

Craft brewers generally have a great passion for what they do, but Soul Barrel owner, Nick's passion clearly reflects in his beers. There are 4 different beers, plus some more available at times, and although all of them are excellent, their Cape Cone (Southern Lights IPA) and Live Culture (Cape Wild Ale) are my favorites. The brewery is small, intimate and off the beaten path (you will be forgiven if you miss the turn-off the first time). Nick is friendly, very knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions you might have. They unfortunately don't sell the beer in bottles, but they do have growlers (big glass bottles) available that you can fill with the beer of your choice. I have visited them twice, and can't wait for the next opportunity to head back there.

With just four beers on offer for now, you know the quality is going to be superb! The Live Culture is my favourite. Nick is very passionate about the flavours and a guy you can really chat to. Great local spot, would recommend it to anyone who's driving through the area.

Hard to believe I have not reviewed Soul Barrel over the past three years. Simply dune of the best beer not only in South Africa but in the world. Nick blends his experience brewing in the United States with local ingredients like fynbos to create delightful beer. The venue has expanded to include additional seating and independent options for food, wine, a glass shop and even a children's amusement area.

I love a good IPA and with Soul Barrel you are spoiled for choice. With 9 taps of which only one is a lager and one is a stout (my other guilty pleasure), you guaranteed to find a favourite. No pretensions, just people who have a passion for their craft, wanting to produce and share their best.

Not many breweries have sour beer on tap in south africa, and if you like sour beers then this is really an amazing experience! Their love culture and Shiraz sours were really nice. Also great range of other beers and really cool venue. Can't wait to go again!
