Mavungana Flyfishing Centre

I have been doing my fly fishing shopping at Mavungana since their opening. The staff and in particular, John Thoabala, have always been very helpful, friendly and professional. The photo shows my mother-in-law (a fanatical fly fisherwoman) fighting her first Rainbow trout on a new rod purchased from Mavungana. I can recommend them to anyone who wishes only the best professional advice and service!

I have always had a pleasant experience at both the Dullstroom and Illovo stores. An amazing bunch of people always willing to assist and provide professional advice. An extensive selection of high quality gear, friendly and efficient service and the best advice - the reason why I have been a client for the past 7 years since I started my fly fishing journey. Popped by the store yesterday to stock up on some fly tying material and was hugely impressed (as always) with the friendly and helpful service from the guys (and even Sarah who was happy to be helping out on a very busy xmas weekend). Found everything I needed as always. Store is stocked well with a super variety of products

The place have everything you need for fly fishing. John who helped us, was so friendly, he explained everything to us as amateur.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with Mavungana since they first opened in the 90’s. The product range offered by Mavungana is right up there with the best in the world, and coupled with an incredible team makes for a wonderful experience when shopping at the Dullstroom and Illovo stores. Not only are the staff extremely well versed in product knowledge, but their expertise when guiding clients on a vast array of waters around the globe is absolutely superb. I have been fortunate over the years to have been on many fishing trips both locally and abroad with the Mavungana team, and will continue to do so as they go out of their way to ensure that their clients have the best fly fishing experience ever. Given the superb team at Mavungana, I know that Mavungana will continue to grow from strength to strength.

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to check out some of the fly fishing shops around town.I am certainly no expert (but my kids are very keen on fly fishing), but I am always interested in seeing what is available to the lay person.I was blown away by Mavungana, the shop is comprehensively stocked and has everything that anyone fly fishing could ever need, irrespective of whether you are just starting out, or in need of a more advanced setup.Their prices were, comparatively, very reasonable and the staff incredibly knowledgeable and so friendly - they where happy to show me the best knots to use to tie on flies and how to join tippet to a leader.If you are in and around Dullstroom there is certainly no need to go anywhere else for all your fly fishing requirements.. I would strongly recommend a visit to Mavungana for anyone mad about fly fishing - novice or expert alike.

Excelent fly fishing store. They offer good advice along with a wide range of fly fishing equipment. I have tried and tested some of their flies with good results for both trout and bass.I would love to do a guided tour with them.

I have always experienced fly fishing as a gentleman's sport, I have had a lot of assistance from the most unlikely sources and this was my expectation when visiting Mavungana. Instead I was met with pure arrogance and contempt.My questions were simply ignored or answered in an unfriendly manner. The only smile I received was when they gave me the R5000 bill.I am no Pro and needed advise and was willing to pay for what I was asking for.If small town businesses don't appreciate the tourist market then they should pack it up and do something else, irrespective of how long they have been dominant in this town.Shop was understaffed, selection is in my opinion lacking and prices HUGELY over inflated and there to take advantage of the tourist they don't want to service properly.I will not be back, there are numerous competitors in Dullstroom I suggest anyone checks them out and not this unprofessional tourist trap.
