Life St Joseph's Psychiatric Hospital

My experience was really good I participated in the life skills and relaxation group therapy and they were professional and they really helped me at my lowest so I would recommend this place to someone thanks guys but could the nurses make the beds.

It is THE dirtiest hospital I have ever seen. the floors are not washed, damp in the walls, there are large pieces of ceiling missing, black mould in the showers between the tiles and the carpets smells like old wet dag blankets ...

Just got discharged at this facility and it's absolutely wonderful from the friendly staff to the facilities. For an old historic building, it has been greatly improved and would highly recommend this hospital to everyone looking to get quality help while having a comfortable homely stay. Terrible. I hurt my hip while having to wait outside for the result of a rapid covid test at St Joseph's Life hospital when I asked for a Dr to look at it I was told they have none and they can get a rheumatologist only on Monday. So am I to understand that at this hospital there are zero medical emergencies? Or just incompetence. The actual rating is negative infinity

Fundamentaly a great hospital with great staff. My only gripes are that every single window is nailed shut so there is no fresh air at all. You must got to a smoking area to get fresh air. Unbelievably short sighted. There is no acces to sunlight either. The only place you can find sunlight is the garden area. Access is controlled between 2:30 - 4:30 at which point there is no sunlight in the garden area. Depressing.

I am in this facility for a bout a week now and I have good things to say about them ...very professional with respect from cleaning staff to nurses and management ...I will definitely go out of here ready to face the world ...my highlight is life skills sessions that prepares us to face challenges.

Everyone's condition is different. I found that they treat everyone the same which was a struggle when you try to explain the condition you are there for. I found also that this facility is more of a 'holiday resort' for ALOT of people that just want to get away from the reality of life. They do not pay attention to your condition and there is no orientation or rather a tour of how every aspect regarding breakfast lunch and dinner works. Also they don't tell you that you have to go get your meds at a certain place and the times. Will NEVER go there ever again and Wouldn't recommend this facility at all. Just don't go there as you will find yourself like a prisoner in the middle of the night with no way to leave. The idea is that they get you in there and try to dose" you into a state worse off from the time you arrived so that they can squeeze at least 21 days out of your medical aid. This way

One of the most amazing places to go if you find yourself unable to cope or have has a breakdown. Nurses and Doctors are absolutely wonderful going out ot their way for you. Food is delicious and generous. Group therapy is a must to benefit. All staff were always helpful and pleasant. Thank you so much.

Don't pay attention to the nasty reviews. They are not representative. This is my experience in visiting my loved one: The building is an old historic religious centre and place of care that has been refurbished as a private hospital. The re-decor is really done well in putty and white colours with exquisite contemporary bird artwork in all the wide corridors and an etched glass piece by Durban's beloved Andrew Vester in the foyer. The furniture is contemporary. There is relatively decent coffee obtainable from the shop.The psychiatric and psychological care that my loved one has received here was phenomenal and the nursing staff was very caring and considerate. There are art therapy sessions, relaxation sessions, dance sessions and group therapy sessions - all voluntary. I have only heard good reports from others who have been patients at this hospital.
