A oasis of peace and calmness, 1,5hr from Johannesburg. A place to connect and also find solitude, to expand knowledge and discover inner peace. A simple, yet comfortable, offering of accomodation and food, in a beautiful location.

A typical retreat weekend starts with a light supper, followed by an introduction of the weekend's theme and a meditation session. Noble silence is then observed. The next morning starts with a soft bell that wakes everybody up, followed by light stretching exercises and meditation. Thereafter a lovely breakfast consisting of fresh fruit, yogurt and cereals in beautiful nature surroundings. To show gratitude for this wonderful environment and generosity, retreat goers are affording the opportunity to work an hour, either in the kitchen or garden. The day then envelopes with lectures and meditation sessions. Lunch is the main course of the day and is always a memorable experience (so much that you will always want to get the recipe to try it out at home). A power nap, some reading, a walk and more meditation in the afternoon is a real spoil for many. Supper is a delicious salad, a soup and freshly baked bread with a closure discussion of the day's experiences and meditation. This is the basic framework - your own experience of centering yourself, filling your cup and pressing the pause button and what it means to you... cannot be explained in this limited space. Highly recommend, it's a compassionate space which accommodate all beliefs and religions, delicious food, comfortable and safe environment, like-minded people, nature, silence, balance and calm and finding and exploring yourself again in this challenging and high demanding life we all live. Thank you Emoyeni for creating a wonderful and special space for all beings to experience this...

I was so moved by my visit here. A gentle, open place with a very thoughtful group of residents with a sense of working towards equality. I felt very able to engage directly with the dharma here, without interference. I also appreciated that it was affordable, and the library is just great - I want to get back there.

I had a rejuvenating, relaxing stay at Emoyeni during the week on a self retreat. The place feels like home, everyone is so welcoming and the surroundings are so peaceful. Hope to be back soon!

I visited Emoyeni retreat centre this past long weekend and it was a relaxing and rejuvinating experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of calm and relaxation wash over me. The grounds were beautiful, with plenty of space to wander and explore. The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, and went out of their way to make sure that my stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. My room was clean with a comfortable bed and an ensuite bathroom. The vegetarian food was absolutely delicious, with a wide range of healthy and nourishing options to choose from. The classes, meditation and walks led by Mervyn were informative, engaging, and thought-provoking, providing plenty of opportunities for personal growth and self-reflection.Overall, I cannot recommend this retreat centre highly enough. Whether you're looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, or a transformative experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and inspired, this is the perfect place to go.

What a fabulous retreat!!!!! A normal looking farmhouse.I've had 2 fantastic weekends here (years ago). You share a room (you literally just sleep there) and enjoy great vegetarian food. Between 9pm and 9am is silence ... I loved it!Normally you start your mornings early - I usually attended a Tai Chi or similar weekend. Exercises early, then breakfast (in silence) and then some work ... either in the kitchen prepping for the next meal, cleaning the lounge and dining area or garden work.Days are filled with exercises, work, meditation and more exercises. Always meet new and interesting people.Close to Johannesburg, it's a perfect distance to spend a weekend.

Emoyeni Retreat in the Magaliesberg has offered me the gift of learning to meditate and to communicate without words. I couldn’t have asked for a better start.Teachers RJ and Mervyn shared their wisdoms and life experiences, besides their heart and they created a platform for all of us to express our thoughts and emotions. We were fortunate with the group of attendees. Their beautiful faces, strong personalities and openness in spoken and unspoken words are buried in my soul.Good to know for future guests is that the accommodation is lovely , simple but everything is provided, the gardens are stunning besides the facilities of the meditation and conversation rooms, the dining area and …. Last but not least the food was mind-blowing. I could easily be a vegetarian with Wendy’s and Kholofelos dishes

Emoyeni is a slice of heaven on earth! A soothing and healing sanctuary for those struggling in the journey of life. The residents and staff are very friendly but also give you ample time and space to recuperate and rest. You feel at home and less like a guest. I love the simplicity of the place and the hearty vegetarian meals.
