Supersolar’s Frederik de Beer came highly recommended by the information groups in Voëlklip, and he lived up to those glowing reports. Utterly reliable, very knowledgeable, competent and highly affordable – his quote came in for less than 55% of the rival, yet the equipment was of the highest quality: the super-efficient and reliable inverter, the solar panels, and the lithium-ion batteries. And no amount of effort to maximize the system was spared, until we got it right the way we wanted: the tilt of the panels (22.7 degrees for Hermanus), the operation of the heat pump, and the installation of a four quadrant (‘smart’) meter. Yes! One can sell surplus energy to this efficient and effective DA-controlled municipality, that you can’t yet do elsewhere. The meter has a SIM card. It measures the consumption and the surplus, sends a message to the municipality every month, and you get the credit on your account. My records indicate a saving of more than R500 on the account, including a credit of over R240 per month. If you’re looking for (1) independence from a state-owned money guzzler whose prices can only go north, and (2) bliss when you still have power during blackouts (“load shedding”), don’t hesitate. And aftercare? Supersolar doesn’t miss a beat.
