Cape Point Nature Reserve

One of the must-do experiences when in the Cape Town area is to visit the Cape Point Nature Reserve. The park is beautiful with the indigenous vegetation and ocean views, and if you are as lucky as we were you can even see some antelope species, ostriches and baboons close by. The park is a self-drive park with the main road being tarred, and even the gravel side-roads are in a very good condition. This is a hikers dream with a vast amount of hiking routes (varying in difficulty), with the main route from the visitors parking area up to the new Cape Point lighthouse being the highlight. If you aren't up for the hike to the lighthouse, they also have the Flying Dutchman Funicular which you can take (at an additional cost) - this might be a good option for some as the hike up can be quite strenuous and requires some level of fitness. At the main visitors' area there is a curio shop, restaurant and public bathrooms (which were nice and clean). We had such a memorable experience and can recommend it to all nature lovers.

An excellent experience. Unfortunately was very windy on the day of our visit. Water was choppy from the top. At the lighthouse, excellent views. Very scenic trip through Simon's Town to get to Cape Point.

I'm always surprised at how much I love this place.... the drive in underwhelms me every time... untill I get to the light house parking.... and from there on I'm constantly in awe. The whole walk to the top is breath taking.The cliffs are magnificent.This was the first time I have been in winter... with the wind.... and wild weather.And it was still awesome.Don't drive past....Next time I am going for the whole day, taking a picnic and hiking down to one of the secluded beaches.Or hiking to the tippy tip of the cape point , I believe it's a 1,5hr round trip.Pathway starts to the left, just above the funicular.

Would definitely rate this in the top 5 of places to go in and around Cape Town! The park itself is well run and affordable and all the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are wanting to miss the rush of tour busses and tourists I would not go on a weekend and get there early during the week - open from 6am! The photos speak for themselves and if you are brave enough, I would highly recommend taking the 207 steps down to Dias Beach and taking a dip in the ocean!! It's worth making a day of it as there are many places to explore and interesting history of the area - be sure to visit the information center.

Absolute spectacular piece of creation that I truly believe everyone should see with their own eyes at least once in their lives.Stunning views every direction you look, and even though you’ll run into tour groups here, it never felt over crowded except for maybe near the light house. But while you can either walk up or take the trolley car up to the top where the light house is, in my opinion it’s not 100% necessary.Just going to one of the different lookout points is just as satisfying if not more as you’re more likely to be by yourself.It is important to note that there are monkeys that love taking food, and they will take the food by force if they feel necessary, just when you go walking around, I’d leave food in the car/bus.

Beautiful place and it was definitely cool to see the most south westernly place of the continent. The beach is gorgeous and the park is filled with the aroma of beautiful Fynbos, known to grow in the Cape Town area. There are tons of hiking routes, places for picnics and photo oppertunities. They have a light house but I would recommend hiking shoes and water for that trip. They have few wild animalslike ostriches and the baboons seem to be extremely chill. The park also has a restaurant so it really has everything you need. I loved the no cash facility at the enterance!!

We had the delightful opportunity to explore the breathtaking Cape Point Nature Reserve recently. It was an approximately 90-minute drive from Cape Town. Our journey included a stop at The Cape of Good Hope. The highlight was reaching Cape Point and ascending the mountain via the Funicular. From there, we were treated to awe-inspiring vistas.

One of the most renown capes of the world. Prepare for some stunning views as you're about to set foot on the most south western point of the African continent. The lighthouse offers a 360 view of the area. You can get there either by approximately 1km hike or by taking the flying Dutchman cable car. Then you'll need to climb some stairs. There is also a beach on the western side. On top you can also find coin binoculars.

Wow! pleasant drive from Cape Town! Took me a couple of hours. Extremely large nature reserve with lots of trails and areas to explore. I saw ostrich and zebra off the side of the road. Great views of ocean and shoreline. I could have spent hours exploring. I had no idea it was going to be such a large reserve area. Leave extra time if you like to hike and explore. You could spend days here hiking.

Beautiful views. Lovely mountainscape.It's really breathtaking the views. Could be a better tourist attraction if they had catering for meals and small tours to the beach below.
