5th Avenue Auctioneer

I do not recommend dealing with this auction house.As an online bidder, I recently had an experience where 5th Ave reopened bidding after the hammer fell. The reason I was given was that “they allow for bidding to reopen after the hammer drops for online auctions, to allow for internet delay.”Interestingly, from what I saw online, the bidders after the hammer fell were not online, but on the phone & floor - so an internet delay does not apply.5th Ave claim there is no recording of the livestream auction to refer back to.UPDATE:The auction house isn’t happy with receiving a bad review - so they retaliate by blacklisting the bidder for not liking the way in which they conduct business. They have yet been able to provide any evidence to prove the contrary. I even paid the higher hammer price...Their msg to me:“The comments you are posting on public platforms are factually incorrect, untruthful and defamatory. In order to protect the industry at large I have added your account to the global blacklist of bad bidders – I intend leaving it there as a warning to other auction houses.”Ironically they’re calling me a liar, which is defamatory & are acting with malicious intent.FURTHER UPDATE:48 hours later and 5th have now sent me some form of written proof of an online bid

No response to my repeated email inquiry regarding crushed artwork received via international shipment to United States. The pack job - amateurish at best - did not protect framed artwork at all. I have never had any of my auction purchases elsewhere packed so poorly. I would strongly reconsider making purchases from this auction house unless you plan to pick up your purchases in person. They seem to get nice pieces at auction, but the risk of ruined art is too great for my taste.

Very happy with the service and quality. Bought a carpet for a bargain price! But the currier cost they added to send the carpet was quite high compared to what a national currier fee is. But will defenitly look out for future auctions.

I was Pleasantly surprised to pay only 10% commission, the lowest I ever paid at any other auctions.

i took in an antique writing slope and was given an excellent and highly knowladgeable valuation and even a tracing of the owner whose name was on a plaque on the box and turned out to be a past medical professor at Wits University and member of the royal college of physicians and even wrote a very famous book called the history of the common cold which is still published today and i have placed the box in their next auction due to this amazing valuation and providence and will definitely be using their services in future
