Pillar Cave
The hike to Pillar Cave is 4.2km with an ascent of 300m. It is a fairly easy hike with 2 river crossings where you're likely to remove your shoes, and several others where you can make it across easily. There is plenty of birdlife and the summer flowers are magnificent. Pillar Cave itself is far from the river, and rather wet in the summer months. It provides a great stop over whee tackling the Rhino. The paths are not great and could do with attention, hence the 4 stars. A great hike for the family.

Pillar Cave
Perfect beginner hike for overnight cave camp, not too strenuous and close to the base camp. The views of the valley are incredible and well worth it.

Pillar Cave
The cave itself is underwhelming, but the hike is great! And that is what you would do this hike for.

Great day hike, you can go to pillar cave and back to base easily or stay over in cave overnight.

This was a fairly tough hike... 4.5km to get there with almost 300m elevation gain but my 9 year old daughter and 68 year old mother in law both made it without any complaints.... Every moment was worth it though as the views are spectacular around every corner. Also includes two fun river crossings so you get wet up to your knees (when you do not fall over if course). The Drakensberg at its very best. Round trip took us about 4.5hours. Take water... Maybe snacks.... But go.
