This stadium is named after Albert Gideon Magubane (1926-1989).It commonly hosts local soccer games and other community events.He was a councillor and one of the first appointed black mayors in South Africa. He served as the mayor of Ladysmith.Magubane was also a well heeled tennis player and an esteemed carpenter.Magubane himself campaigned for the construction of the stadium as a central location for Ladysmith and Steadville public life.
