La Plume Boutique Guest House & Spa

Nice guest house with great facilities and a nice swimming pool. Staff is very friendly and the rooms are just perfect. At night you can enjoy a good ostrich steak in the stylish dinner room of the hotel. In the morning you can join the owner at a trip around the local ostrich farm. The trip was quite informative, but not very spectacular. Moreover, there is not much to do in the direct neighborhood. So, if you stay here one night and the main reason for your stay are the ostriches, then I would suggest you visit an ostrich farm on the first day, so that you can continue your journey right after breakfast on the next day. Overall, we had a good relaxing time here.

This was the most bizarre hotel we have ever stayed in. We traveled round the cape for just over two weeks, staying in 6 separate locations. All were amazing except this one. Fortunately we were only staying one night. When we arrived at the agreed time, there was no one to be seen, no staff or guests anywhere, we eventually found a gardener who seemed terrified of doing or saying anything wrong, he eventually found someone who checked us in. There was none of the smiling warm welcome that we had received everywhere else. There was a really bad feeling about the place, it felt completely joy and soulless which was really sad after the amazing stays we had already had elsewhere. The room (bungalow) was nice but totally unnecessary, we only needed half the space and we rattled around in the dark as all the lights were off constantly with no generator to kick in when needed. My little boy was ‘terrified’ and wanted to sleep outside as he felt the room was ‘haunted’. There was one member of staff who cracked a smile but other than that, nothing. The water in one bathroom was brown and the other didn’t work. We booked to do the farm tour in the morning but were then told at dinner that it wasn’t possible as the owner had a meeting. We couldn’t wait to leave.

Absolutely wonderful place. We were basically passing through but we're so pleasantly surprised we delayed our departure. Rooms are huge and extremely comfortable. But the best thing was the food! Most delish ostrich we have ever eaten combined with a wonderful choice of healthy vegetables. The breakfast was fantastic too. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful guest house, the rooms are huge and very nicely decorated. The grounds are lovely with a nice gazebo to sit and have a drink and take in the views. We thoroughly loved this place and wished we could have stayed a second night.

It wasn't value for money at all. Pool was green. Staff not proactive at all across many aspects - nobody in charge and clearly missing a leader. Both bathroom basins dirty on arrival. Farm tour not available. Spa treatment modified to save time and not communicated upfront. Food was good. I tired place that is relying on stunning furniture to sell itself but is lacking an owners touch.

We only had one night at the hotel. The rooms are very nice with a good old African charme.We had a warm welcome with some wine.Dinner was good, but not much of a selection for vegetarians or vegans.We also booked a treatment at the spa. Which was good, but not very good. Even though we mentioned that we had back pains and we were said that they would take care of that the massage was more like stroking than pain relieve.

From the moment you arrive you feel welcome and relaxed !We are on holiday in SA and regret that we only stayed a night !The room was magical with the view of the mountains , dinner was amazing value and just exquisite!Lastly the Tour of the Farm by the owner we loved !Ps Sharon is so helpful !

Very nice experience at La Plume where we first taste ostrich (which is absolutely delicious!!!). We had the opportunity to go on a farm tour with Dutoit's fifth generation, we 100% recommand this tour which teach us a lot about the capital of Ostrich feathers, the legacy of La Plume, Oudtshoorn's past, the local farmers and of course ostriches.
