African Ubuntu Backpackers

I honestly loved everything about this place. A generally safe area with family friendly vibes, and within walking distance to the beach. Surfer's village is quite a bit of a walk away (30 minutes), but totally do-able if you're into a nice walk. Otherwise, you may have to rely on Uber/taxi service, which can be hit or miss. The hostel itself had such great vibes - both the staff and guests made for a memorable time. Only downsides are related to questionable cleanliness and no secured locker space.

In a somewhat Jbay where most of the most of the the accommodation had been taken due to a Grom Surf Contest taking place in the town and it being school holidays and all and arriving in the little town after having lost some of my personal belongings at the airport, feeling a little grumpy and where no one in the town seemed to really care, I finally landed a friendly face with a chap named Ammo, owner of Flamingo Coffee Shop who not only directed me but insisted he walk me halfway up to Ubuntu Backpackers to make sure I knew exactly where it was (Gob Bless his kind heart).As soon as I arrived I was bombarded with smiles, kindness and just people who understood people and that things happen, authentic people and without question got me a room, told me payment can be sorted out later on since my wallet was gone, told me to freshen up, I got a proper tour of the house and got to meet most people who were currently staying there. I won't mention any names however thank you to you all for being so amazing.The establishment itself is fully equipped with self-service amenities such as a pool table, bar, outdoor deck with braai/barbecue facilities, fire pit, a gondola with suspended seats, a wet area for surfboard & wetsuite racking and cleaning. A stone throw away from restaurants, two grocery stores, a liquor store, Bank ATM's, a filling station and more.Had an awesome stay and will definitely be back there soon.

Very comfortable accommodation and friendly staff. Always clean and great view . Highly recommended!!

There are many spots to hang out. Ubuntu has a nice garden and it’s across the road from the beach. J-Bays best restaurant Nina’s and the supermarket is just around the corner. There’s a good kitchen if you want to cook. They have a movie room for rainy days. And when the sun is up they’ll arrange your surf lesson or other activities. The staff are very nice and helpful. I’d love to come back to Ubuntu.

I'm from Pe and it was my 1st time spending the night in Jeffs, the place looks nice and relaxing However i don't know if it's that specific place or are all the B&B and Lodges like them, Towels is suppose to be part of the package but it was R40 a towel & In Pe towels are part of the package. It's the only disappointing part of Ubuntu Backpackers.

Very hospitable and warm backpackers. Lots space to chill around with beautiful views of the beach in front from the top deck. Ended up staying a week longer and even went back a second time. Thank you for a truly wonderful stay guys!

My friend and I had such a good time staying at Ubuntu. The house felt like a home and Keira was a great host. Do stay here if you come to Jbay! It feels like sharing a house with friends :)

Super nice backpackers hostels. It has cozy vibe. The owner and his sister are very friendly and helpful people. They gave me very unique local tips and helped me with my luggage.If you are in Jbay and you want a social atmosphere Ubuntu is the place to be.
