Butcher Block Sibaya

Friday night dinner. We didn’t make a reservation and there was plenty free tables. We sat upstairs with a lovely view of the fish tank. Service was really prompt.The menu is extensive and I was pleasantly surprised to find a live teppanyaki station. The food was ready really really quickly. Good tasty food. Sadly of the 10 or 12 menu desert options, only 4 were available. Will definitely try them again.

Had a birthday dinner here some time back , forgot to review. There are inconsistencies with the food here, often times delicious and others, a let down, the same with the drinks. Great atmosphere though. Food is abit over priced for my liking. On a previous visit last year had ordered steak, and was burnt to a crisp. They cannot handle pressure at busy times. We did end up complaining and not eating much on that day. But luckily on the redeeming side to this restaurant, we had been here on other occasions as well to give it a proper try. The prawns are great though overpriced. The sushi was over priced and not the same every time.

I don't understand all the bad reviews. We've been to the steakhouse at Sibaya just 3 days ago and it was amazing. We got a table upstairs which had a fish tank in the middle of the tepanyaki place. The menu was pretty big and it all sounded delicious. 2 days before we had the chicken strips at the express station and they were so good that we decided to try out the steaks at the restaurant. The waiter was such a nice guy. He apologized whenever it took a bit longer. But we didn't really mind or thought of it being too long. We had a Moscow Mule and a Long Island Ice Tea which were super good. Then for our meals we ordered a Tomahawk Steak (700g) with mashed potatoes and a Sirloin (200g) with mashed potatoes and a garlic bread to share. My fiance says that was the best Tomahawk steak he had so far. And my Sirloin was also really amazing! Just thinking of it makes me crave it again. We also fell in love with the mashed potatoes. All in one we would definitely come back again.

What a great experience from Nelly. She made made us feel more than welcome. We enjoyed our time here and with her customer service we definitely gonna come back again.

My friends and I had booked in January for the Bee Gees Concert at Sibaya for the 1st of April and at the same time we booked at The Butcher Block. So the booking was made at least two months prior. So I had a booking at the Butcher Block Sibaya restaurant, and we arrived at 5:30. Our booking was for 6pm. Firstly they couldn’t find our booking and then the waitron showed us to two tables. When we chose a table another waitron came and told us that table was for reservations only. I told her we had a reservation.My friends and I were then led to a table, we sat there for 20 minutes until another waitress, not our waitress, arrived to take our drinks order, nevertheless we ordered our drinks and meals at the same time to speed up the process, as we had a show to go to. We waited for another 20 minutes before our drinks could come to us. We then waited for another half hour and noticed our food had not arrived yet. This is now almost an hour since we have placed the order. We complained to the waitress who was not supposed to be our waitress and was now serving our table. She told us our food was now third in line. Still no food one hour and fifteen minutes after placing our order.I then went to look for the manager because our waitress was busy serving other customers with their meals who had arrived at the restaurant after us.I found the manager and advised him we had been waiting for over an hour for our meals, he then followed me to my table as he needed to see where we were seated. He told us our food was third in line still. Anyway our food came 10 minutes later. An hour and a half after first ordering. The manager mentioned that they were short staffed and two of the managers were in the kitchen cooking. Well we could tell - we ordered 3 medium rare 200g ladies steaks which came totally well done with chips and sauce. No sauce ever arrived. Our 4th person in the party order the half chicken prawn combo. She tried to eat the prawns but said they were not coming out the shell and tasted weird and the chicken tasted like it had just been defrosted. We sent her meal back as it was totally inedible. Now bear in mind the manager agreed to take this last dish off the bill and we paid R1500 for three 200g very well done horrible steaks and some chips and one bottle of wine. We don’t mind paying for good food but this was ridiculous for what we got! We only just arrived with 5 minutes to spare at a show that started at 8pm. Now today the person who ordered the chicken and prawn combo has food poisoning.We told the manager we will never return to Sibaya Butcher block, some of our friends were all the way from Kloof which is an hours drive away. I cannot believe that the Butcher Block will keep this restaurant at Sibaya in their franchise as it is bringing the name of your company down. We are all totally horrified.

We walked pass the store and noticed a banner showing a special for 2 @R299. Starter, mains for 2 and dessert. When we were placing our order the waitress advised that its a holiday the special won't be applicable so I don't understand why they displayed the banner and the board at the entrance showing the special. This is utterly false advertising just to attract customers. Very disappointing. After I brought this to the hostess attention she quickly removed the special board from the entrance.

The restaurant is not halaal but has some great vegetarian, seafood and meat-alternative dishes ( including a beyond-burger that I had and enjoyed). My friends really enjoyed their meals as well. Service was really good and decor was ok. Friendly waitress and staff. No queue and great mocktails offered.

Worst service we have ever experienced. If I could I would rate them 0 stars. This restaurant should close down. Most disappointing service. We booked a Christmas lunch for 12 and double checked that we could order off the main menu. When we arrived we were told we had to order off the Christmas set menu. I ordered a hot chocolate and it was like ice coffee. After 1 hour of ordering we were told there was no stock of salmon. The food was served to us in normal glass plates because the food boards were finished. I don't understand how the boards could have been finished when the restaurant was not even full. The steaks were so cold that the cheese on top of steaks did not even melt. I feel like the steaks were served to us from the fridge. To make matters worse there was no hot veg or baked potatoes and this was not communicated to us we just got served chips instead. Half my family went home hungry. It was the worst Christmas lunch we have ever experienced.

This was my 2nd time here. A few years back, I had a good experience. The food was still ok last night. We were there to celebrate a birthday, it was a party of 6. The service was bad. The waitress did not make good recommendations about the food, she has no knowledge of different cuts of steak, even less knowledge about wine. She couldn't even organize a cupcake with a candle or anything small to commemorate the occasion. This was very disappointing. We complained to the manager who seems equally incompetent. Do these waitresses even receive training in the service industry? This is such a beautiful place, unfortunately the waitresses are just useless.

This was my first visit and I must say that the service, ambience and food were all nothing short of 5 stars! I have a new favourite restaurant.
