Melville House

Melville house is quite but my gosh very unhygienic. The kitchen has dripping taps the whole day and cockroach paradise on the servicing and cooking table. I cooked once and couldnt after that because cockroaches will be wilding everywhere near your food. Its also an interesting space with characters of note...a cross between rehab ( I don’t know how many people I saw there who are on narcotics or recovering from them. It feels like a mental institution I have watched on TV. Honestly if you want peace of mind yeah but a gem fest.....glorified tavern in the heart of Melville. Drinking daily from morning by the manager to cleaners. For some quite time, yep go for it but buy take aways and dont cook there. Kitchen towels are permanently dirty but hanged there to use.

I have been staying here on and off as a student over a period of four years until my graduation. The place has recently gotten an upgrade and the staff are always lovely. Seems comfortable but is not. The walls wear peeling off/most. The pool was empty. The room was extremely cold with a useless wall heater. The owners were not wearing masks during face to face interaction during this pandemic at the reception while I was paying for a room. Ended up paying a little over R600 and regretted it from the very moment. If you know your money's worth, don't go to this guest house. It's not worth it. It is cold and unwelcoming.

Listen if you re looking for a nice Affordable hide out, go to melville House, every major shop and mall is 2 minutes away from the area, their prices for Accommodation start from R190 to R200, very chilled area, it has a swimming pool breakfast in the morning you can cook for yourself aswel, and a safe place to be in.

There was a break in and unfortunately I was the only who's belongings were stolen and the owner told me that he's not reliable for any loss. The place is very dirty and you be sharing bathroom with million people. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Lovely place. Quite homely and the people are so friendly. We had everything we needed and more. Enjoyed a community of backpackers celebration for the new year. Can't wait to visit again.
