Ocean Basket Castle Gate
Great food and lovely atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting outside, away from the busy restaurant, where we could enjoy the summers day and the surroundings of the Mall.The only downsides for me were that the staff were quite grumpy and didn't follow COVID procedures in terms of signing us in and sterilizing the table before we sat down; and that the portions were smaller than when we previously ate at Ocean Basket. Not sure whether the portions sizes are specific to this branch or a general standard at all Ocean Baskets. Was still delicious, though!We had a great lunch and afternoon and we will definitely be back.Follow @heloisetravels for more reviews and photos.

Ocean Basket Castle Gate
Tonight was a total disappointment. The fish were the size of sardines. The waiters are so busy preparing their own meals they don't notice the customer. When we complained the manager was laughing saying its the waiters fault. If you are a manager you should control your staff and keep the restaurants name high. I can't believe this sort of behaviour has happened more than once. No wonder the restaurant was empty. I would love to hear what the owner has to say.

Good food, good service.The only negative I have is that the Spur next to OB has their speakers facing directly into the dining area outside, so the lovely calm atmosphere is broken every 15 minutes for an obnoxiously loud birthday song.I do not mind these songs at all… if I go to Spur I want the lively music and im not bothered, but if you want a calm lunch usually associated with other OBs this is really distracting.

The waiters are very friendly but it took 1h 10 minutes to get our food! Then food was tasteless! I have been there twice and have the same experience! I ordered fish and veggies! Fish had only 2 drops of lemon butter sauce! the grilled veggies looked liked boiled with no taste!

I would definitely say they have a thing or two to learn about fine dining and foodplating, Though we not at any fancy restaurant here.Food was a solid 6 out of 10.Service was ok, never a waiter when you needed one.Food portions have definitely gotten smaller and then also more $€¥All in all I'll be back when I get invited here and not by choice.

Took my daughter and her first dad/daughter date and she picked Ocean Basket as she loves sushi.Service:We had a great waitress that was friendly and made small talk with my kid that I really appreciated. Her service was quick and efficient.Seating:We sat outside and it was nice hearing and seeing kids play. The fresh air was good and we had no issues with flies. Everything was next and the tables were clean.Food:This, unfortunately, is where things went south. We ordered sushi and the 3-way calamari.3-way calamari:Not all the rice was hot. Some of it was warm, some room temperature, some colder.They use Cajun spice on some of the calamari, but in this case the spice was sandy and I had to remove bits out of my mouth. The waitress explained that the spice is like that. I disagree as I've had this dish at many a Ocean Basket before and have never experienced this.The lemon we received was past its usable date. It was hard and browning.Sushi:Some of the sushi were quite good. The problem was some ingredients like the avo should have been fresh. The same with the garlic which has also started browning and had a hard edge when we received it.Overall:We still had an okay time even though the quality of the food leaves a lot to desire. The manager would do well to get his kitchen in order, especially at a popular venue like Castle Gate.

If there were more stars this Ocean basket deserves it! It was a busy Friday night, but still they managed to put an 8 seater together for us. The waitress was very friendly. The food was absolute spectacular - the prawns perfectly cooked and flavourful. Sushi was awesome too. And the seafood platter for 1 that 2 of our guests had, also great. Ocean Basket is by no means cheap (but all prices have rocketed everywhere to be fair), so our R2100 bill for a party of 7 was on the heavy side, but absolutely worth it due to the exceptional food. Management / Owners deserve applause here - it can only be this good with well trained staff and hands on management. Definitely recommended. And definitely we will visit again!

I just came from the Ocean Basket in Castle Gate Waterkloof Ridge, was served by the most rude waitress I have ever come across, she is apparently called Precious (that is after I asked the manager what her name was). Skhumbuzo Ndlovu who is apparently the manager, did not address my issue with her at all.I was greeted by someone else at the door, after I was seated, she (the one who seated me) and this Precious person proceeded to point at me and giggle behind their counter. Then Precious came to bring my bread, did not bother greeting or introducing herself, didn't ask for my drunk order. Nothing!She was just dropping things on my table as if I'm not there. She gave me the nastiest look when I asked her to warm my bread. And when it came back l, the bread was upside down, clearly just thrown in the microwave.The manager just apologized on her behalf, and let her back to my table after I asked him to change my waiter.I couldn't even finish my meal the way I was so angry, and they made me pay for it!I'm completely appalled by the service I received here,and disappointed cause I always order uber eats from them, but after today, never again!

We overall love all their fish and chip platters, the meals are great, tried their sushi but was not our favorite. Service was very good.

Ocean Basket Castle Gate
While the waitress was great and service swift, the food was a disgrace. We had fish, calamari chips and vegatables. The calamari was OK, fish tasteless, chips old and dry and vegetables mushi, clearly warmed up perhaps from frozen. While they tried to make up by a free coffee, I won't be back as the food was not up to scratch. Rather disappointing as we previouy had great food at the Midsream branch.
