Excellent service from them. They know gearboxes, all gearboxes without a doubt. My gearbox runs better than new and pricing for the rebuild was decent.

5 months i had my gearbox here to be reconditioned ,i was referred through someone . i had gearbox reconditioned within 2 weeks by another company. really disapointed...

Took my Land Cruiser to Friendly motors with a complaint of a thumb experienced on the vehicle when switching up the gears under load. Their diagnosis was to recon auto gearbox. After R25k, problem still persist but also got it back with an addisional problem of loosing power to the wheels completely, on a steep incline. This almost cost my life when it happened the first time going up a very technical and dangerous route up a mountain. Took it back numerous times to Friendly Motors after this incident. After the first send back, they admitted that the the thumb was actually caused by a worn limited slip diff and nothing to do with the gearbox, hench forth the R25k spend on the gearbox overall , was a major waste of money. However they never could figure out why the loss in power to wheels start occurring all of a suddon after they worked on the gearbox. I figured out myself that if I over fill the gearbox fluid by about 500 ml, the problem was temperarally better. After taking it back numerous times, they simply shrugged there shoulders at the end , told me they dont know what else they can do and send me off with the advise to simply keep on overfilling the fuid level., which kept on leaking out again. Over the next 50k km , the problem just got worse before the gearbox completely packed up. This time I took it to Triangle transmission who quickly diagnose that Friendly Motors broke a seal when re-assembling the box , as well as fitting the wrong pump filter. They fitted a single pickup filter unit , instead of a duel pick up unit. When I passed on to Friendly motors the feedback from Triangle transmissions in a very non confrontational manner, the owner was immediately extremely agrressive and slambed the phone in my ear. Phoned them up again the next day to give them time to cool off and send them an email afterwards again, but no admission of guild or any form of retrobution offered at all to date. So I ended up paying Triangle Trans another R30k. Done about 15k km since getting it back from Triangle Transmissions, runs like a dream. Their only argument is that their warrenty does not extend for 50k km and that I am rediculous to expect any form of compensation from them . My argument however , is that I informed them within days after getting the vehicle back from them the first time and on a continious basis thereafter, that the box was worse off after getting it back from them with major and specific problems persisting, took it back to them numorous times and gave them all the opportunity in the wold to fix it. At the end they send me off telling me they have no idea how to fix it and cant do anything more for me.

Never again. They do not honor the warranty. Serviced my beemers transmission here, for it to leak after. In their warranty, had to pay to get it there, only to be told after a very interesting diagnostic, that I need to now change my entire gearbox. HIGHLY SUSPECT. Use with absolute caution, watch them closely and make sure to cover yourself. Because of this experience we’ve lost faith in 3rd party mechanics in Cape Town and have now taken it to the official agents. Can’t wait to hear what BMW has to say and their findings.

After an initial quote of R15 000 to fix the gearbox, being the cheapest, I went with it. After that it turned to R30k and then R44k! I wasn't able to go back as I would have to pay for everything taken apart which was already over the initial R15k quoted. It also took an entire month to fix, and I had to take it back a few times after that as it didn't drive smoothly.After only 6000 km driven, and just out of the 6 months warrantee, the gearbox exploded.They will have nothing to do with it. Very poor service. I wish someone had recommended I steer clear before I spent all this money on a broken gearbox.

1 day after leaving my car with FM after I called in I was told that I must wait till they have time to look at my car.On day 3 I was on my way to pick up the car and was told the car is fixed and that it was only a seal that was missing.I now have to take the car in again because it is still leaking oil.Will not take it to FM again, but reviews of other Gearbox places are all the same. I suppose its a Russian Roulette
