J Macdonald and Sons

The Sons can be a bit angry. They quoted me a Stainless Steel part at R480. I had one custom made at R130 just down the road. The one assistant told me it was locally made and another said it was imported, I imagine to justify the price.

Really disappointed at the service by their Cape Town Team.Came in to fix a leak in the flue of my fireplace. Initial cost was R10 000 to fix and then the first light rain after the “fix” the problem continued, as if nothing had happened. I was then informed that it would cost a further R4 800 to replace the weather collar as this is a “trial and error” type of fix owing to the initial instalment. Trial and error means that it could continue to leak heavily and we keep paying. I understood the material cost but disputed why they would charge a further call out fee, labour, transport and miscellaneous equipment, for something that could have been identified during the initial instalment to which the response was, “I can’t argue with you when you seem to know better”. Is that the right way to talk to a customer? Terrible response from what has been a terrible experience.I foresee that you will respond disputing that this happened, as you have done with all negative comments.

My flute dissipated within 2 years- they have repaired it - but at my cost .

Highly recommend macD Fireplaces. It is not easy retrofitting and working in an existing space, Morne and is team were pros. They were efficient, tidy and their workmanship is fantastic.

I reviewed wood fireplaces over a number of months and decided on the new Franco Belge Savoy Mk2 Elegance because of the area I needed to heat, it's updated design as well as the price. I visited several suppliers. I was particularly impressed with Richard Wantling at J Macdonald and Sons. He was not pushy, really knew what he was talking about and kept all his promises. I was offered an excellent price for both the fireplace and the installation, and the installation was efficiently done on the agreed date. The company has been around forever, imports it's own fireplaces and offers a choice of different brands.By the way I share the same name as the company but am not in any way related and have never met anyone there previously

We purchased a Sentinel Ottawa Marvic 700 insert to be installed.Dirk promised us delivery and installation on the 15/03/2023.On that date at 9 am Morne and his team arrived as promised.The team was very pleasant and efficient and completed the installation in one day.We would recommend Dirk, Morne and his team.
