River Roost

We had a wonderful three weeks in the riverside cottage. The views are simply amazing. We took our old dog with us and she was very happy there too. We were able to work easily with the wifi, and if we were both on video calls, one used our own cell signal to hotspot. The cottage is spacious, the bed is super comfy and the bath is dreamy. There's also a private jetty for the cottage which is great for sundowners and swims. Bring a paddle board or rent canoes for your stay. The driveway to the cottage is quite steep so would recommend a sturdy car or parking on the upper level for longer stays.

DON'T BOOK THIS PROPERTY!I booked this property for my husband and daughter as a stayover on their way to Cape Town. The pictures look fantastic and the cottage is indeed located on the river and has a picturesque setting, but that is where all good ends.The property was, to say the least, filfy and in desperate need of maintenance:- The private jetty has sunk- The chairs on the deck are broken and full of spider webs-.The toothbrush holder was not cleaned- There were bat or gecko droppings all over the place- A bat come out of the curtains when it was drawn- Stains everywhere- No candles or lights for loadsheddingThis was all brought to the owner's attention when my family members left soon after arrival, to go look for alternative accommodation. We were promised a refund (in writing on the Air B&B messaging thread, but has (to date) received nothing!

Municipality water was cut. Apparently this is not just about the draughts. But excellent view, great breakfast and Lekke rus.

Charming cottage right on the river. The most beautiful views with Knysna loeries coming right up on the deck. This property has an enormous stunning garden! Lovely owners.

I have traveled the world on vacation for the past 50 years and my stay at the River Roost in Kenton on Sea was one of the best I’ve ever had. The grounds are a beautiful botanical garden with stunning views across the Bushman’s River and down to the ocean. The hosts, Simon and Judy Oliver, could not have been nicer. Comfortable accommodation, beautiful scenery, very warm and welcoming hosts that went above and beyond. This was a very special experience, despite only staying for the one night it made a lifelong impression on us, and we will be sure to return at some point again in the future. Highly recommend!

What a unique and pleasant stay! It was exactly what we were looking for - a peaceful stay with lovely views over the river. Simon and Judy were all round fantastic! Love their property and their warm welcome. Would definitely go back.

It is a a rare occasion to have a stay that is also an experience. Simon and Judy are home.I could end this review here, but I can’t.Beautifuly designed house that touches all your senses. The smell of Judy’s food in the evening, amazing stories you hear over the dinner table, garden walk in the morning while breakfast is being made, two beautiful dogs. The art on the walls, did I mention the stories?This place is absolutely everything that will make you feel at home.

I booked 2 nights accommodation at River Roost mid-September. On arrival, the gate to the property was open and therefore I entered the property. While proceeding down the driveway, I spotted the owner tending to his garden and he noted that I had arrived. The owners dog had also seen me arrive and proceeded to jump onto the side of my vehicle multiple times while I tried to navigate down the driveway - all while the owner simply looked on and did nothing to stop his dog. The first words of welcome from the owner were how did you get in?"Once I had stopped I needed to get out my car and try stop the dog from continuing to jump on my car (all this while the owner did nothing). Simon and Judy are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to ensure their guests enjoy a relaxing time at their guest house. The meals we enjoyed were excellent. The grounds are lovingly cared for and the view to the River is great. River Roost is in a wonderful setting. The beaches of the Indian Ocean are a short drive from the property. Walks along the beach are wonderful.
