Toys R Us East Gate Shopping Centre

Went there, not impressed at all...Lots of toys but many of them have broken or torn boxes.You get to the till with a trolley full of toys and as you are about to pay you get told that their ToysRUs trolleys can't leave the store and you have to make another plan. There are no other trolleys outside because the store is by the banks, so you have to walk far away to try find one from another grocery store.Security is so focused on trolleys (the door alarm even goes off if a trolley leaves the store!) that they didnt even count the toys properly, because neither the teller nor the security noticed that one large item didn't scan and it made it out without any alarms going off. It was only when I was heading to the car and checked the receipt that I realized they didn't do their job correctly, and then had to walk all the way and stand in the queue again to pay for the item. I don't think many people would be as patient or as honest as I was. The service could really use some improvement.

I got a bunch of messages from loved ones saying my ID number for my registry is not working (it is a little over a week to my baby shower)… I went into the branch only to find out Toys r us is having a website issue and they are unable to help my loved with my registry…. this is really disappointing… I was not even contacted the store!

I went to exchange a toy today. I was at the store for 45 minutes, the lady at the cashier claiming they are checking the item. Mind you, a white lady came right when I waited and got an exchange for the same reason ‘item does not work’ in 2 minutes. The cashier exchanged it for her. For me. She had to call Vuyo and Basil. if you don’t want us Africans to patronise your stores, please put a board and say ‘no Africans’. The racism is appalling. I brought this up and the cashier lady became rude.The Basil guy did not wanna give me a receipt and spoke to me with a demeaning tone, he literally shouted at me. Eventually he ordered the cashier lady to give me a receipt as if he was doing me a favour.Now that I think of it, I am going to the store to demand a refund for the toy.If you are black, please avoid the store. The black cashiers will treat you like they are doing you a favour. I have never been so appalled in Johannesburg in my life.

I went to the store and wait for over 15 minutes for a cashier to come and assist me, there where only a security lady by the door no one to assist me

Who are you paying to give you these high reviews? My husband and I went in to look at the baby compactum. We had to look for someone to help us. Once we found someone we were told that they didn't have stock. We then asked if they could check the other branches to see if there was stock which was met with a reluctant oh ok". After waiting 20 minutes we were told that there was not stock at any of the stores. We then called two other stores and both had stock. I cannot understand what is going on at your store. Customer service is incredibly poor as well as staff being incompetent. Will never return."

Absolutely terrible service at 15:14pm in the afternoon cashier makes you wait till they cash up and count no other till open really

So apparently the self-service gift wrapping" is self-service for some customers and a service rendered to others. Double standards and privilege for some is not on Toys R Us

Very sticky about exchanges, wouldn’t advise doing a baby registry here.

It was a pleasure dealing with the manager at this branch, i think his name was Wayne. Very helpful and friendly in the mad rush before christmas.
