Great Spa - a little bit rustic, but beautiful setting, amazing views, lovely staff and a great massage :)

What promised to be a spectacular experience turned out to be spectacularly poor. Inexperienced therapist + Perceived high pricing = Poor experience.

My wife and I just completed a ‘half day’ spa experience as per your brochure. We have been left with utter disappointment. From the onset there has been nothing but confusion with my spa booking, I inquired as I checked in yesterday however still met with confusion. In order to avoid this, I had confirmed the treatments and needs thereof with Angie via email before we arrived for our holiday.Upon arriving at the hotel yesterday, I was looking to confirm the booking and I was met with confusion. Initially, the booking could not be found on the system. Secondly, the spa was booked for my wife’s birthday - I asked if anything special could be done for her as part of her gift from me, again no communications of this were noted anywhere. After the long back and forth confusion, the day of the spa finally arrived. Again, we were met with disorganisation. We arrived 20 mins late for our appointment, to which we were so apologetic - however the receptionist asked if we are having breakfast first (again this was discussed via email, we’d prefer to have the lunch option). After we explained this to her, another lady led us down to the spa.We were let into a room, and asked to have a seat while the room was set up for the spa. The candles were lit music put on all while we were waiting. Again, appears there may have been a miscommunication? It certainly does not come across as a professional spa service. Finally, once the room was set up, and we were asked to lay on the massage beds, we noticed the towels to be stained, and extremely scratchy - almost uncomfortable to the touch.Once the spa treatments eventually started although enjoyable we were again met with a bit of confusion. It seemed the two masseuses were not well versed in what a half day spa comprised of - they were often whispering to one another almost as though looking for what the next step would be.A full body aroma therapy massage was completed - which comprised of a full body massage with the use of oils. The massage itself was of good quality, and the masseuses were attentive to our needs. After the aroma therapy massage, a facial was completed. Again, this was a good experience. We were often left laying on the massage beds while water was being warmed and dishes clinked around which didn’t add to the relaxing atmosphere. There was no break between treatments, to which is normally given when completing a half day spa.Once the facial was completed the ladies were meant to complete a manicure for my wife as a birthday treat - unfortunately this could not be done as she had gel nail polish and the spa did not have the facilities to remove this type of polish. It is understandable, but should definitely be made clear when booking. After this, the spa treatment had ended, after a total of 2 hours (many of which we just lay on the beds)After we completed the treatments, we checked the spa brochure in our room to compare what we paid for vs what we received. The brochure outlined that in a half day spa the following will be included :- aromatherapy full body ( completed )- facial (completed)- coffee / cappuccino (not offered)- Indian head massage / foot ankle and calf massage (not offered / not completed)- lunch / breakfastI have been to numerous spas in JHB, and other smaller towns, and I must say the service received was subpar. The prices of your treatments are the same if not more expensive than other spas I’ve visited and the treatments were definitely less than what was expected for the price I paid. In addition, despite the confusion and treatments it really did put a damper on my wife’s special day.
