Lately I was selling some of my parents furniture through HM and it was great to have no hassle and the prices was good. Everything was picked up at the house and the money is in the bank!

Excellent place to sell all sorts of goods. Very friendly at receiving and their admin is efficient so payments are made soon after the sales.

I’ve never had a bad experience with Hofmeyr auctioneers. It’s the best place to off load unnecessary furniture you wanting to sell at one time.

BEWARE! Absolutely the worst experience we've ever had with an auctioneer. Zero communication, accountability or responsibility. We auctioned a number of beautiful South African paintings - without being informed that this auctioneer does not set market-related buy limits. This is IMPORTANT information that they should take care to inform every client. We would NEVER have used them if we had known. HM Auctioneers will sell your items to any man off the street with R20 in their pocket (literally - they sold multiple of our well-known artists' artworks for this amount, I WISH this was a joke). They have lost us thousands of Rands. It also took us over a week to find this out - having to approach them for information as they had never communicated once with us during the entire process. If they are members of SAIA or SAPAA they are flagrantly transgressing multiple clauses in the Code of Conduct. Bitterly upset, confused and disappointed by their service and their attitude to our complaint. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

This auction house typically runs two auctions every week. Their Wednesday auction handles bric-a-brac and household contents while the Saturday morning auction is higher end furniture and household contents. Viewing is the day prior in each instance or an hour or so before the auctions begin at 930. Their staff are friendly and willing to help newbies. Also, a great place to dispose of your unwanted goods.

Great general auction. Don't expect rare antiques but plenty of quality furniture, persian carpets, pictures etc. Highly recommended.

A wonderful place to go and buy the unusual items they offer. Wednesday you can rummage through boxes to find a hidden gem, Saturday to find those more refined antiques and collectables, just remember your mask or they won't let you in.

Great auctionhouse in the heart of Wynberg, bought most of Lord Carnarvon’s furniture from them over the years. Do NOT sell your items through this auction house. I was a furniture importer for ten years and recently sold some items I had left over from my 3 (large) shops.FACT - At the time I left them at Hoffmeyr I was told that they would not accept a reserve on any of the items, BUT, that the auctioneer would NOT sell them below their value! They said that the auctioneer KNEW the values. NOT TRUE ! They sold ALL the items for peanuts ..... I would rather have sold the items on Gumtree or FB or used them for firewood (which costs more).For example they sold a large, beautiful, recycled, carved teak coffee table for R600 of which I will receive only R464 after their commission ! The coffee table was in excellent condition, newly made from wood more than 100 years old. very solid and lightly sanded and oiled. On auction it should have reached a at least R1500-R2000. In my shop several similar ones sold for around R7000. The call it outdated clearly not know the difference between antique, vintage, classical furniture or rubbish.Hoffmeyr did not respond to my email enquiring as to the result of the sale, until I sent a second email ten days later. Then they tried to tell me that the table was damaged ! Again not true, just trying to cover up their mistakes/ incompetence.Perhaps good for buyers who can take advantage of the lack of interest by the auctioneer, but even buyers should beware as I have attended their auctions, and have seen the prices being pushed up by owners/ dealers in the room. Have heard the complaints of very disgruntled buyers too ! Beware.

Fantastic auction house and people. Sold my furniture at above market related prices. A great place to buy and sell.
