Rietvlei Nature Reserve
Very well looked after nature reserve, just on the edge of the suburbs of Pretoria. There is a large dam and lots of grasslands as well as some small rivers and reed beds. There are buffalo, cheetah and other wildlife to see, but it is probably the bird life that makes this place so special. With a diversity of habitats you should easily able to see at least 50 different species in a few hours if you drive to different spots. There are also several well maintained birdhides where you can sit and admire the scenery while you lookout for birds. There is also a nice restaurant/coffee-shop where you can get a light snack and refreshments and enjoy sitting out in the peaceful gardens.

Spent the day at Reitvlei Nature Reserve today. Was such a good experience, clean and well kept place.Spent +- 5 hours there. Saw zebras, wilderbees, rhinos, ostriches, many different types of birds. Saw a herd of about 20 wilderbees run across the street just infront of our car, was something great to experience.Totally loved the picnic spot and the bird hides. At Fern fountain fell 8n love with the spot to the right of the hide.(A sitting area, that's been dug many feet underground)Visited the coffee shop, beautiful decor and good sitting area.

Very nice game drive. Lots of animals that includes Cheetahs, rhinos and many more. Pricing not bad for a day out with the family. Place is clean and lots of picnic spots. There is braai areas. So make sure to pack a chop

Looking for some quiet time in Nature just 30min out of Johannesburg? Then head out early to Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria. This beautiful reserve is a bird watchers dream, with tons of wild life too, buffalo, zebra, eland, jackal, serval as well as cheetah! You can only get out at demarcated areas and hides. There is a wonderful picnic site by the dam with loads of seating and braai facilities and there is a coffee shop that offers limited meals. Conservation fees are about R62 for adults (less for children and pensioners). Pack a picnic and head out for a lovely day away from the city hustle.Don’t forget to pack binoculars and cameras. You can also download a basic bird and animal list from Google for the kids to mark off while driving around.

One of my favourite “in the wild” places to relax and unwind. Perfectly located between Kempton Park and Pretoria offering that “outdoor wildlife experience” without having to drive for hours. I haven’t been disappointed yet.The birdlife is amazing. The hides are perfect for sunset photography. The cheetah’s are always on the list of animals to find. So far I have seen them 3 times… And with the cubs only a few months old it’s the perfect time to visit. For the more adventurous there’s the wildlife walks and overnight camps. The tar roads are good, however, some of the sand roads need a little attention, especially if you’re in a sedan.Tickets are purchased on arrival, but credit card only. No cash!

A peaceful and absolute serene experience. Take a camera | Your binoculars and a local bird watching guide. And when passing a small steam of water - stop and listen It’s pure beauty.

Had a nice 3 hour drive through the reserve, animals are aplenty though I missed not seeing the rhinos, place is nicely maintained though a little more effort could be made at the coffee shop, lots of potential. Amazing to have a reserve in such close proximity to the city. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth a few hours of your time.

It's a great place for a day trip with friends n family just 45 minutes drive from greenstone hill. Place full of springbok, Zebra, wildebeest , ostrich and you will also see Rhinos ... you will get a close glimpse of all the anilmals. The picnic spot is the place where you can spend quality time with family with a close proximity to Hippo.
