A client of mine was selected for a SARS audit. The auditor totally misinterpreted the financial information and incorrectly assessed my client an additional R27,5mil taxation due on additional director's remuneration while his actual gross directors remuneration was in fact only R1,5mil. We obtained the services of a tax specialist to draft the dispute. SARS rejected the dispute. That was when Alan came onboard and assisted us. He won the appeal and SARS conceded. SARS issued a reduced assessments and the taxpayer was no longer due R27,5mil to SARS. My personal opinion is that would Alan have came on board to draft the dispute instead of the other tax specialist, that SARS would have conceded already with the dispute and tha taxpayer would never have has to apeal.

After about 6 months, the returns and all evidence of the refund due, mysteriously disappeared off the eFiling profile. It took Alan less than a week to get SARS to reinstate the information on eFiling and get the refund paid out. I wish I had gone to Alan four or five months earlier.
