I bought a VW Caddy that had just had it’s cambelt service done by Kokkies in May 2021. Sadly, they only replaced the belt, not the sprockets and tensioners that are included in the standard replacement kit.The result - a cheap repair for the client that previously owned the car; and a failed sprocket for me 20 000km later in Jan 2023. Fortunately, the cylinders were not damaged (engine overhaul required), and I got away with only R9000 of emergency repairs.Now here’s the sad reality. I phoned before buying the vehicle to check that cambelt service was done. I was assured by Kokkies that it was done. I asked why it was so cheap. They said it was an easily accessible location for repairs.What they should have said is that they only did half the job and that if I want to have a vehicle that is safe to drive, I better replace the cambelt again as soon as possible.Now that I phone them to point out their poor ethics, they claim that it is not their fault and that they were instructed by the client (who was preparing to sell his car) only to do half of the cambelt repairs needed.They refuse to compensate me for my loss or acknowledge any wrongdoing. Not great.
