Ben Mac is also called Machollo Great Mother". It has stone cairns on top. These were originally placed by the shepards to impersonate a figure at the top of the skyline and scare away evil spirits. Some of these go back many years it is traditional to place one more stone if you visit.It is also traditional to have a "sundowner" as the sun sets to the West.There is also a golf tee "Ben McGolf" at the top of Tiffindells ski lift. You must wear your kilt for this and hit the ball into the dam

Great drive from Tiffindell to “Ben Mac” as the locals term it. Road is water damaged and quite rough but not excessively challenging for a high clearance 4x4. Switchbacks are tight with significant gradient. 360 degree view from the top is amazing. Watched two thunderstorms happen around us whilst there!A very worthwhile trip!

Enjoyed reaching the summit. It was easier than I expected it to be. A lot of work had been done repairing the route. Magnificent views. Enjoyed the solitude of the place.
