The food at this place is amazing!!Let me start from the beginning. I felt a hankering for some real BBQ food with an American twist. I Googled smoke and BBQ and found Smoke ‘n’ Steam. Hmmm sounds promising. The review from other customers was very promising. I put in directions in Google Maps and started driving. The directions took me more and more out of the center of Pretoria. Into a residential area, further and further into the residential area. We stopped outside a gated community. This could not be correct? I called the number in the profile of the place and spoke with the owner. He explained that it was not a proper restaurant, more a delivery place. I explained that we were outside the and would like to order from the place directly, if possible. The owner was very friendly and opened the gate to the area and we found the place. I was a little surprised to find a food truck, or just a food trailer. They didn’t have a printed menu, but the menu was online so we could choose from the phone. I ordered 100 grams of smoked brisket, 100 grams of smoked pulled pork, mashed potatoes, apple coleslaw, and bacon jam (yes, you read that right). The food took some time to make, but I know it was fresh. It is only a two person operation so you cannot expect the food to be finished immediately.I brought the food back home and was very eager to taste the food. And it was everything I had hoped for, and more. I was blown away. This was proper southern BBQ, and I mean southern USA. But BBQ in South Africa can be just as good in this case. This experience has certainly been one of the highlights of my culinary journey through South Africa. The food was devoured in half the time it took to get the food. :-)I can certainly endorse Smoke ‘n’ Steam and I will be back, but I would suggest to call ahead and place the order before picking it up, or use one of the food delivery services that has Smoke ‘n’ Steam as a client.

We did delivery from them, and very impressed. The food is fantastic, and the presentation is impeccable. Wrapped and tied with a bow. Flavour of the food was amazing. Will support them again any time! Give them a try!
