We camped at Zebra Bush camp. What a joy. You cannot hear the busy road. The ablusion is lovely and clean and private. We were in the fenced park, but there are free range" stands too. The people are friendly and helpful. Thank you for the pics Derick."

Today I had a fantastic time at the dinoking reserve. I booked a guided tour at the mongena game lodge. The price of 400 Rand for a 2,5 hours tour incl. one drink and snacks was fair. The ranger could answer all my questions and made this tour informative. We saw two rhinos, a group of giraffes, three beautiful cheetahs, around 100 gnus, impalas, antelopes, etc...Perfect for a daytrip from Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Nice and close to Joburg in terms of having that getting out of town to the bush feeling. Big game is scarce, though, as the land owners in the North seem to keep the big game and predators on that side. How they do it, I don't profess to know, but I have heard it claimed as such. If true, it forces you to use safari vehicles to enter that side and see the game or do the self drive and be content with antelope. It's still a great concept, but issues like that should be sorted.Plenty of eating places and the brewery is a must visit, if you can get a seat - it's busy over weekends. The 4x4 only part is not very 4x4 demanding at all, and soft roaders can easily manage it.There are plenty of options to choose from in terms of accommodation, from basic bush camp tenting through to 5 star luxury lodges.Go and visit it, it's a great weekend away.

It’s a great big 5 reserve. I saw a lot of animals. There is beautiful Bushveld scenery, lodges and camping spots. It’s very convenient for a weekend getaway from Johannesburg and Pretoria. It’s just close to Hammanskraal and the highway. So if you stay on that side of the reserve you can still get noise. Also even if you stay at a resort or camping spot you still have to pay extra to get a permit for the self-drive routes to view animals.

The only Big 5 reserve in Geuteng, it was great. Great range of accommodation and excellent game viewing but you must go with a guide or you won't have the best experience. Most lodges offer guided game drives and are great value. A few restaurants and pubs are scattered amongst the reserve, they are well priced and offer quality food.

The lodge we stayed at was just sooo beautiful. What made our stay even more amazing was being woken up by the sounds of lions roaring at 3am! We booked a guided game drive and were incredibly lucky to see lions.. We've done a few self drives before and haven't had much luck with sightings of the big5.
