I love that it’s spacious, so the common areas are seldom full. They offer both self-catering and catering services. Clean rooms and beds, okayish showers with hot water. I enjoyed their food, especially the vegetarian. Beautiful beach, approximately 3/2km walk to the nearest river mouth. Great for surfing and swimming. Be sure to pop in Bean and board coffee bar, they make the best coffee, shakes and milkshakes!

Mdumbi is a BackPackers and is not luxury but very comfortable. Great food. Well priced and wholesome. The biggest selling point Position Position. Hikes...surfing..rural quiet.

Arriving at Mdumbi Backpackers feels like stepping into a different world, it's not just the location, it's also the people and the atmosphere that they create. A really special place, that feels like home. Over and above the activities like surfing, hiking and fishing, it's the evenings around the cosy fireplace and days in the common area spent reading and making music that I remember the most. And the milkshakes and coffee at the bean & board cafe is a winner

My husband and I camped here for 2 nights with out camper bakkie. The camp spots are nice and flat and there is electrical plug points for the camper. The beach is close and beautiful. There is a shebeen close by, but bring along food. There is not a lot of shops around. We did an amazing hike halfway to coffee bay and its awesome. Lovely clean backpackers with amazing staff and friendly kind hearted people.

Wow wow wow, little piece of heaven on earth. Awesome location, amazing staff! Highly recommended. Just a suggestion, bring cash and buy local to support the community. Fresh fish, firewood, beers, you name it and you can get it daily.

By far one of the best located backpackers/accommodation you will find. Very cozy and such a friendly atmosphere. Mdumbi Beach is a great beach for swimming and surfing. Perfect place to relax and enjoy yourself. They also have the best milkshakes and wraps. There are also a variety of rooms, not just dorms. Will definitely visit again in the future and bring other people along!

It takes a little effort to get here (2 hours on a gravel road) but once you are here it is all so worth it! My wife and I are nature lovers and we have seen many places around the world but this little corner of paradise really is breathtaking. The people in the village are friendly, the welcome truly heartfelt and you are surrounded by breathtaking nature and awesome activities all around you. The beach is 5 mins walk and a perfect spot to do kayaking, snorkelling, swimming in the lagoon, beach tennis, etc. Very safe and you feel like you have the whole beach to yourself. For longer walks you can (as we did) hike two hours on the beach towards stunning rock cliffs and visit the caves. The actual Mdumbi itself... You'll feel right at home quickly. It is a combination of accomodation styles, from chalets to small bedrooms to dormitories to camping, but if they appear basic they are wonderfully charming. Great toilets and showers are never more than a few seconds walk from wherever you sleep. The communal area is totally cool and so much fun to relax and chill, with great coffee shop and little restaurant with really fair prices (we thought we would cook more but the food is great and affordable). There is a big shared kitchen with fridges and cooking tools and utensils for your disposal. We came for 2 nights and ended up staying a few days longer as we loved it here. Internet WiFi is great but on MTN we had no issues doing video calls for work. This is one of our new favorite spots, but even more so when you learn the amazing story of this place and how it really is part of the community (the backpackers is 50% owned by the community).

What a fantastic experience. This backpacker is located in one of the most stunning areas in South Africa. We stayed in one of the main houses on the property that is really well maintained and very unique. The decor of the building uses natural themes to blend into the surroundings. There is a small play area for the kids and the beach is walking distance from the backpackers.Take a walk around to the sea edge and you might be surprised to see some whales in the water or even a school of dolphin swimming by.
