About a 500m walk to the Big Tree, with wooden walkways all the way. We did visit after some rain, so the walkways can be slippery in some spots, so be sure to wear some shoes with good grip. Beautiful scenery!

We did the orange hiking path the big tree so big you gotta look up 90° amazing the hiking you gotta take drinking water and good hiking shoes there are mud and where good comfortable clothes and if you get fast tired take a hiking stick with. The forest is so clean and when you start the hike you start at the yellow then you can go further to the red if you wish yellow is about 2.6 km hike easy 60 min because of the terrain and when you stand at the start of the yellow trail there a big box open it up and fill in the page in the book and take the paper because that's youre free one day license to hike its for if you come across the anty poucher let you show you hike and dont pouch.

Well it was a bit underwhelming to say the least. After walking maybe about 30mins, you get to the Big Tree and that's all it is maybe it's my age but it didnt really interesting for me.On the way, you might find a few creatures, we encountered a snake and the kids were a bit scared and ended up going back to the car. I completely the lone journey to the tree, and took a slight jog myself on the way back.Overall you must really love nature to enjoy this.

Almost didn't stop here because of the rain, but as it cut off the short big tree walk was worth it.Most of the path is wheelchair friendly, with a sloped incline and a wooden walkway, some areas were a bit gritty but nothing a wheelchair cannot get through. The most problematic part for a wheelchair would be the small set of stairs in certain areas.Entrance for South Africans is R24. There are also two other longer hikes (not wheelchair friendly). Bathrooms were really well kept and with a bit of style with designated wheelchair friendly cubicles. There is also a curio shop by the entrance.

I loved this place. It is so well maintained. There is the green trail to the big tree and then the yellow and red trails if you want to enjoy a looped forest walk after seeing the big tree. I did the yellow trail and it has been one of my favourite trails for walking with yellow woods and iron wood trees so far. It was 2.6km and I took it fairly slow at one and a half or so. If you have a wild card you can get free entry. I highly recommend a stop here even if just to see the big tree.

A recommended place to go to if you are staying or travelling through the garden route. The big tree had been renovated recently so the facilities are much better now compared to how it was many years ago. It’s got many trails as well for hikers to explore. Some trails are on built wooden bridges and panels. Some trails are in the wild amongst trees, bushes and passing small river streams. It’s really nice because there’s no set paths, so you may choose your trail depending on distance and difficulty. An entrance fee is required, I think it was R35-50 per person and I spent about 3-5 hours here. A very refreshing hike because the trees provide shade against the sun and heat.

This was well worth the stop. Our Wild Card was honored, and we had just enough time to get to the impressive Big Tree and do one of the loop trails before closing. The boardwalks make the walk through wet areas quick and easy, though there is some elevation change.

What a lovely park to stop at to stretch legs during a long journey. A short 1km walk to the big tree or two longer trails for avid hikers.

SAN Parks does an excellent job to keep this magnificent site open to the public. I would make this a must see if you passing by. 15min walk to the tree from the entrance. The forest walk is just as an amazing experience.
