Makanyane Safari Lodge

We have enjoyed our stay and seen the most wild animals ever. Highly recommend. Be prepared for endless good food and being spoilt.

An absolutely stunning place, that has completely caught our heart. The lodge is small, cosy and very private. The staff is amazing, fully focused on making the stay unforgettable. The rooms / lodges are wonderful with a stunning view on Limpopo river. The food is great at any point of the day. And the highlight are the drives in the madikwe Reserve are mind blowing ... do not miss out on makanyane lodge !

My wife Courtney and I had a blast on our honeymoon, we wished we stayed longer than 5 nights! The staff was very good about my food allergy which is always reassuring! The staff was fantastic and our guide was knowledgeable and hilarious. You can tell they all love their jobs!! 10/10 would recommend!

The experience is unforgettable. Witnessed Lions and a leopard in action and many unique species, including the most fearless creature of the animal kingdom: the honey badger (look it up :-)). Very personal attention. Great food and the best guide thinkable! One point of attention: the dirt road to get there stretches 50K and is challenging...

We had a fantastic 4 night stay in Jan 2019. There are no words to describe how fantastic this lodge is! The communal areas such as the outdoor bar, infinity pool, restaurant etc were stunning & beautifully kept. Our actual lodge was the height of luxury! It was enormous, immaculate & had the most breathtaking views onto the lake, where we saw lots of hippos! The 4 poster bed, private terrace, free standing bath & outdoor shower were fabulous! There are only 8 lodges which made our stay much more special & chilled. The drives were the absolute highlight, our guide Kaiser was fantastic & so knowledgeable. We saw so many animals & amazing sites such as cheetahs & lions with their kills. All the guides are very thoughtful of the animals & there were never more than 2 trucks around the animals, often only ours, I felt the animals needs always came first. The food was also incredible, with delicious vegetarian options for me & variety of meats for my husband. The staff were all fanastic & attentive, nothing was too much trouble- especially Ben & David - thank you! Our only small complaint is that the mosquito net was broken so we couldn't stay in the hide. For such a luxurious lodge, I think they should have had spares. Apart from that I could not fault this lodge & couldn't recommend it more!

Had an absolute blast here at Sanctuary Retreat Makanyane Lodge. My wife and I had our wedding here, and Ina-Mari was able to set everything perfectly for us. It was beyond what we could've imagined. Additionally, there were not 1 moment I felt hungry here. Every member in the team have helped with any needs. Highly recommend!!!

Sanctuary Makanyae is an amazing place. They are a smaller resort on the reservation. The staff and food are first class, from the cleaners to the safari guides everyone learns your name and introduces themselves to you when you arrive. We were lucky enough to see the Magnificent 7, all within about 20' of the animals. We will be coming back.

Great place to relax and unwind from the busy city life in the untamed African Bush. The staff is excellent in catering to your needs , with highly knowledgeable game guides. Food and wine is of top quality.

Fantastic lodge on the Marico River. Food and service very good and Dillon, the head field guide, was amazing. The lodge is situated on its own concession so sightings are not crowded.

I recently stayed at a 5-star safari lodge and it was an incredible experience. The lodge itself was beautifully designed and well-maintained, with luxurious amenities and comfortable rooms. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating , always going above and beyond to make sure that my stay was enjoyable. The highlight of my trip was going on safari, where I saw an abundance of wildlife and had the opportunity to take some amazing photos. Overall, I highly recommend this safari lodge to anyone looking for a high-end safari experience. The food was also great, variety and quality was amazing. The location was spectacular and the service was top-notch. I will definitely be back!
