Car started to shake after we had a full service made where we live ( Malelane ). We go in twice to the local mechanics that serviced it and had them check. Nothing both times. We go to Joburg and the car breaks down. We take it to two different mechanics and both claim it´s the gearbox. One even wanted to charge us R29.000 and would take around 2weeks to repare. ( We live in Malelane so it´s a far drive )We couldn´t believe it and tried again. 3rd times the charm.Found The Gearbox guys online! Not even did they help us get the car from where it was for a reasonable price but they also FIXED the problem within DAYS! Turns out it was a CV joint and NOT the gearbox. We got a quote and were VERY happy to pay the price. We got EXTREMELY good service by a man called Danie ( not sure about the spelling, sorry ) that kept us updated with daily whatsapp pictures and information. I can ONLY give this company and their staff high recommendations and honestly, if anything happens again with any car THIS is the company we I´ll recommend to anyone who asks me. Thank you SO much for being one of the few honest, decent mechanics that doesn´t screw people over.

Danie is a fantastic person to work with. The work he and his team deliver is of the highest quality. I can reccommend anyone to make use of Gearbox Boys...they do the job very well.

They did a great job on my clutch repair and the price was reasonable. But after receiving my car back, my brand new Willard battery was gone and replaced with a old, no-name battery that is now giving me problems. Upon contacting Danie, one of the owners of Gearbox Guys regarding this missing battery, I was treated with utter disrespect. I would not recommend taking your car to gearbox guys.

A Little story about Gearbox GuysOur Bakkie , an Mazda: Bt-50 2.2Tdi H/Power Sle P/U D/C, 2012 ModelIn September 2020, The engine ceased due to overheating. It was a 9-month struggle to get the warranty to payout. Once they paid out we took the bakkie to gearbox guys for a replacement with a 2nd hand engine. Once all was done, we got the bakkie back. We went back for a few minor issues, but nothing major. Then it happened, within the guarantee period the bakkie engine blew. We were stressed big time as we were on a long road trip! Danie from Gearbox Guys arranged for a recovery vehicle and confirmed that we were okay. The bakkie was sent to the engine supplier for investigation as to the cause that made the engine blow. There was some finger-pointing between them, Gearbox guys, and the Engine supplier.It looked like we were going to wait for a battle between the engine supplier and Gearbox Guys that fitted the engine. However, Danie and Arina from Gearbox guys took full responsibility to repair the Bakkie at their own cost. The bakkie was sent to the engine supplier for investigation as to the cause.They even replaced our Seat covers and replaced lost components that were never returned from the engine supplier like Battery, talk converter, Stater, and many more.Big Shout out to Gearbox guys for keeping to their warrantee and commitments, I know this cost them thousands of Rands and this is during these difficult times when all businesses are suffering. I have deleted my original 5 star rating because Danie changed from being straight forward and honest to avoiding me, and not honoring his guarantee. He open lied when I asked him if he had test driven my car, by saying he did - YET he didn't notice the rubber boot wasn't in place, I drove just to the gate and returned so his son could complete the correct fitment. He didn't notice that the brakes needed bleeding and then accused me of basic harassment for asking him 2 weeks apart if he had sourced the parts for my bakkie. Now that I've stripped to look for myself I'm appalled at the work I see, (blob welded my gear lever then used insulation tape to smoothen it out), ai nee sies man!He professes to be a church man, but a tree is known by its fruit. Generally, what is sown will be reaped, so no more work from me and I'll tell everyone of my experience.

Been going to them for years.They are willing to help sort out problems with my old cars at reasonable rates.
