Askham Kalahari Camelthorn Caravan Park and Guesthouse

It was most pleasant to arrive at Kalahari Camelthorn and to find one of the cleanest and most comfortable campsites in the entire SA. The owners were on hand to supply wood and ice. The hot water was hot and the toilets were clean and 100 percent functional. Electricity and lights were a bonus.

This is a safe quiet place to overnight on your way to the Kgalagadi National Park. The owners are very friendly and very Accommodation. Can recommend to any person.

Rene is the proprietor and runs a lovely, Small 6 site camp with her husband. Green soft grassed stands, good shade, electricity and water on each site, very adequate ablutions, allocation of a shower and toilet per site for Covid protocols. Only downside is it's in the little town of Askham, down a side street. We were expecting to be out of town. Close to Diamond T for coffee and light meals. Also a short drive to the park, if you prefer day trips. Camel farm, Meerkat project and salt pans within an hours drive.

We camped for one night at Askham Kalahari Camelthorn and can recommend it wholeheartedly. René made us feel very welcome and spoiled us with roosterkoek. The campsite is a beautiful oasis and grassy stands, even in winter. There is plenty of shade, stands are level and the place is super clean and well kept. The ablutions are great. We would love to visit again.

Absolute gem in what feels like the middle of nowhere. The self catering unit is exceptionally well equipped! We were very pleasantly surprised with the unit and accommodation. If you are looking for a stay over in the area I would definitely recommend the self catering units. The units are also very clean and beautifully setup. The attention to detail is phenomenal and the owners are super friendly and accommodating. 5 star experience. Small side note - if you are coming from Vanzyl's Rus side then you'll have to drive 150kms of (not good) gravel road. Recommend to come through via Upington even though slightly longer.

What a wonderful campsite in the middle of the Kalahari. We stopped there for two nights on our way to the Kgalagadi and Namibia, and were enchanted by the hospitality and the facilities. We camped on the lush green grass under a shady tree - so refreshing in this arid part of the country. The host made us feel like we were staying at a guest house. She went out of her way to recommend things to do in the area, and arranged a donkey cart ride for the children. The ablution facilities were stylishly decorated and were clean.

René spoiled us with 'lekker roosterkoek' when we camped there. We enjoyed our stay very much. Ablutions excellent and host very friendly and accommodating!

Beautiful Oasis in the heart of the Kalahari. Felt like home away from home. We stayed in one of the newly built guest houses and was blown away by the service and gourmet meals served. This was a true five star experience. Will definitely visit again...soon!!

Stayed at a camping spot. Premisis beautiful and clean. Basic but nice ablutions. Nice green grass.
