It's true the funny/off after-taste mentioned by the several other reviewers. I'm guessing ingredient freshness is not always on point. It had been a while since I had fishaways, so today (16 June 2022), I visited them and ordered hake, calamari and rice. The hake, calamari, and possibly the oil used, were definitely off, and the rice was not even close to properly done. Even though I was super hungry, I had to give up and toss it in the trash (see picture attached).

A rip off... R69 for the NEW prawn salad!!! A mixed salad with 6 minute shrimps the size of Cherry tomatoes... Really?? That's the last time I support them or Steers...

I was very disappointed with both the pop prawns and hake. The oil used had a very weird off-ish after taste and smell. I'm disappointed with the Plumstead Fishaways branch!!!

Ordered 3 hake and chips got home and the order was hake and rice. Drove all the way back from Diep River to return order because they don't take calls as I was told. The staff member at the till had the nerve to tell me I ordered rice when I clearly told him with a witness I wanted chips. Well he showed no admission and facial expression that he got the order wrong after not listening properly. Looked at me as if I'm mad to make a noise about the fact that my petrol for his mistake cost more than what the fish was worth. What an overfrozen piece of fried fish and preheated chips. Might be tasty for someone who does not know what fresh fried fish and chips tastes like.Spoke to the Manageress who's only answere was that off a script ... Will take it up with the staff.Also they do not take phone calls so could not call in to bring the mistake to their attention.Fishaways that's it for me first and last. Pethetic service and poor food quality.

Super disappointed! R46.90 for roll with lettuce, sauce and 4 strips of small calamari with 10 fries! Ridiculous!My wife's regualar hake was a tiny little thing in carton.Not worth it!

Our meal was disappointing. My partner's pop prawn had the weirdest after taste. And not salt nor tartar sauce could save the combo I had.I usually enjoy Fishaways. I'll admit that I haven't had it in a while, but that is not how I remember it!

Quality is okay however the portions are unbelievably small. A Regular Hake is basically a fish strip. The staff are also very unfriendly. I know that Steers, Debonairs and Fishaways are managed and owned in conjunction as a multi brand singular franchise so its pretty clear that costs are compromised amongst the 3 outlets. The Fishaways in Claremont is much better compared to this one. Terrible, would not recommend.
