This lovely old graveyard is situated on the upper outskirt of Pelgrimsrust. It is well kept with many lovely stones.

We visited the cemetery in a group after sunset and as it was there was some rain earlier on which resulted that mist was forming creating an eerie scenery but apart from that we noticed that the cemetery was not well maintained. Worth notable is the robber's grave which was one side with no marker to the person. I think the cemetery is a mirror of the hardship the town people experienced with the gold rush it had and that living it came with a price.

Historic Cemetery of Pilgrim's Rest
I had always heard of the Robbers Grave and managed to find the grave in the old Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. When walking around you experience a distinct trip to the past when reading the inscriptions on the various grave sites tomb stones and are immediately drawn to search and understand more of the history. It is evident that times where tough and somewhat different to today. Google has a lot of the history available and allows one to go back in time and relive our past.

It is an old cemetery. You can't expect too much. But this cemetery, its beautiful, peaceful and take you back in time. Nice board at the entrance of the people buried there. The QR code on the board do not work though. Beautiful view from the cemetery.

Historic Cemetery of Pilgrim's Rest
The cemetery is just above Main street on the hillside.It's still worthwile to walk up to the historic cemetery and have a look at the headstones and infamous Robber's Grave. The Robber's Grave faces the wrong way (North to South), not facing the rising sun, opposed to all the other graves lying East to West. It's of an unnamed man who was accused of stealing. There are varying stories concerning the unnamed man.The cemetery is open to the public.. no admission fee is charged

Interesting place to visit. Lots of history just reading the old gravestones. And the famous robbers grave that faces from North to South unlike all the other graves.
