Beautiful setting on the beach front. Walk across the road and your feet are on the beach. Sea air and waves crashing sure is the place to be when considering sea side holiday. Owner is amazing and so helpful. Easy and accessible. Shops and petrol garage right there so convenient. Stunning sunrises. A definite must stay place in Durban. Umdloti is one holiday destination you will love.

Shabby backpackersExtremely disappointment with this establishment it does not display what is showing on the website but rather the owners house definitely not worth the price a ripoff. walls peeling floors cracking dirty showers , kitchen equipment moldy and a rusty old fridge as well as minimal cutlery. Bedding outdated and smelly. Beware owner removes reviews from Google I've just had to rewrite this oneWe can do backpackers shabby at the right price (very overpriced) but NOT dirty.Location good that's all.

Wonderfully situated right on the beach. A tasteful Thai style setting. Self catering but walking distance to the Umdloti restaurants. Very peaceful.

We were looking for a peaceful, welcoming home-from-home rather than a cubicle in the concrete timeshare jungle – somewhere affordable where we'd be close enough to the ocean to hear the surf break. At Mei-Pen-Lai, you step across a quiet street right onto the beach, with top-class restaurants just around the corner. What a pleasure to join the regular crowd of joggers and walkers, cool down in a safe, natural tidal pool on the way back, and then drift off in a recliner with a snatch of ocean peaking through the gate posts. Our host, Rory, went out of his way to ensure things went smoothly. I can highly recommend this charming place with its unique ambience and relaxed setting – it is an excellent choice within its price bracket.

Excellent location but poor value in season. R1500 a night plus R250 for our puppy. For that price one would expect coffee and some sugar in the room, but there was nothing. Unit 3 is under the stairs, so no view really. The unit and the furniture are in poor condition and it all desperately needs a refresh. The place is good for dogs with a big enough yard but the gate is heavy and rusted. The owner, Rory, is nice and friendly that's why it gets 3 stars instead of 2. Perhaps the other units are nicer but this felt like a Thai backpackers joint to us.

Lovely place. Safe and cosy. Beautiful rooms and garden. On the beach and short walk to shop, steers, garage and restaurant. Defnitely worth a visit
