We were very happy with the work done by Julian and his team, it was done quickly but unfortunately since then it's been downhill. Looking back now, we realise we paid way too much. We paid R15k for a R6800 architect quote, R15k for a R2800 engineer quote, the shower broke 3 times after which we told them to not come back and after looking at it myself, I realised they used a screw and plastic sim card to keep a clamp in place. The stairs and bathroom was not built according to building regulations, and the wood they used outside the window is not treated. Such a great guy, but what a disappointing experience. He just ignores messages and phone calls and since paying him R15k for the engineer fee on the 21st February, nothing has happened. If you use them, make sure you have enough money to not expect anything in return.

Excel Skylights & Lofts are a highly skilled, talented, professional, lovely group of guys who went the extra mile for us over and over on a recent build for us.They:*Created an arch in our living room and extended the width and height of the existing arch*Widened the entrance way to our kitchen and the window area*Gutted our kitchen and made the space ready for the installation of new cabinets*Purpose-built cupboards and shelves for our utility room*Crafted an amazing new wooden front door to my specifications*Installed skylights*Not to mention painting, waterproofing, tiling, plasteringI can’t recommend Excel enough.

Paid Julian Smith the owner 12k deposit as per quote for 2 skylights and he ran away with our money. He blocked us from all contacts. Does anyone know where he is based????

Julian's team was professional, tidy and polite. The project took a bit longer than expected but we are delighted with the end result. Thank you guys!

My son is renovating his first property and paid a 60% deposit to Julian of Excel Skylights. Now we are told installation will not take place until 100% of the bill (which turns out to be highly inflated) has been paid. Clearly this is absurd, and in light of other recent reviews it seems highly likely this business is going under. Julian refuses to return my son's R12,000 deposit or any part of it. Do not consider using this company. Julian's reply below seems to be typical of the way he operates. He is well aware the deposit was paid by my son's builder (using my son's money), and appears to believe this technicality somehow justifies his unethical behaviour.ONE WEEK LATER: Full of apologies for his behaviour, Julian arrived to install the skylights

Very bad workmanship. Paid 70% on a skylight quote which he never installed yet and is demanding full payment before he comes and install. Which I never heard of in my life. This guy is a fraud do not use him at all.

Project 2 completed and we are very happy with workmanship and service received and look forward to Project 3. With thanks to Julian as well as to Stefan both who go out of there way to ensure customer satisfaction - PROJECT 3 HAS NOT HAD A HAPPY ENDING SADLY - WE HAVE PAID IN GOOD FAITH AS REQUESTED - THEY HAVE REQUESTED WE GIVE THEM TILL IN THE NEW YEAR TO SORT OUT MATTERS - WILL ALLOW THEM THE OPPURTUNITY TO RECTIFY AND FINISH OFF THE PROJECT TO OUR SATISFACTIONIt's now March 2022 and they have still not come back to attend to waterleaks into the house as a result of their workmanship.Am ever so sorry that we paid before job was completed but was more out of compassion as workers needed to be paid as informed by Julian

I was happy with my roof window installation and gave them a 5-star review initially. That was until the first rain came. There was a big leak coming from the roof. Excel Skylights stated that the leak’s origin was not from the area that they worked on. I paid them for additional waterproofing with (apparently) a 3-year guarantee.After the first rain (a week later), I sent them photos again of the leak – at the same place, just as bad as before.I have been struggling for 9 weeks now to get them to come back, but there are always excuses. I got fed-up and changed my original review to state my situation. Julian then explicitly told me that he will only come and have a look if I remove my bad review.Is this experience even worthy of 2 stars?

Thank you to Julian and the team for coming in and rescuing us from a disastrous skylight installation. Julian completely understood our predicament and the team repaired the damage caused by the other 'contractor'. We now have not 1 but 3 professionally fitted and beautiful skylights. Thank you again guys. We love the our new skylights!
