Millstream Farm
Millstream Farm is a beautiful setting for a getaway. The houses are well maintained, fully equipped for a comfortable stay and spaced out in such a way that even at full occupancy it would not feel crowded. We explored the many dams and weirs via the plentiful, well-marked walking trails and enjoyed the variety of bird and wildlife we saw along the way. Conveniently located a short drive outside of Dullstroom and just a few hours away from Johannesburg, I hope to be back again soon!

Booked for 3 nights, Had warm water the first night and then it was gone, They tried to fix it the next morning but unable to do so and no feedback about it not being sorted. Tried again the Sunday and said it was fixed but still no warm water few hours later. We decided to rather come home as I did not feel like another cold shower. Asked the manager to phone me when we checked out but got no phone call, I had to phone him.

Me and my family have made Millstream one of our resting place for 20 years now and it never gets old. If you love fly fishing, hiking, nature, horse riding, bird watching or just want to get away from your crazy technological surroundings, this is a place for you. Most of the cottages sleep 10 people (two double bedrooms and three bedrooms, each with two single beds. There are 4 full bathrooms; 2 bathrooms with tubs and 2 with showers) and is roomier on the inside than it looks from the outside. Not that that matters, since you’ll be spending most of your time outside. There are also some cottages that sleep 4 people (perfect for a couple or a small family). There is a fire place in the lounge and double doors that open onto a patio with a braai area and an extraordinary view. And let me tell you, each cottage has its own unique views. The kitchen is fully stocked, but bring your own specific utensils (and perhaps a large coffee/tea mug) with, if you’re particularly picky about that sort of thing. The cleaning ladies come in every day and change the bedding every week, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. Laundry services are available but please check with reception. They have a clubhouse with a tiny library of books, if you accidentally forgot yours or if you feel like your current reading material is boring. There’s also a tennis court, heated indoor swimming pool, squash courts, a sauna, a pool table, a play room for the little ones and a lounge area with a DStv. You can also buy prepaid Wifi at the reception, but don’t count on lightning speeds, you’re in the countryside remember. The nature there is breathtaking. You might even see a mongoose or a pheasant slinking and strutting near your cottage, while having your hot beverage in the misty mornings. There are also many birds of prey flying over, including the majestic fish eagle. Birdwatchers, remember to bring your binoculars and birdwatching app/book. Photographers, bring that big camera of yours. There is a little birdwatching hut at one of the upper dams waiting just for you (you might spot it on the right on your way to reception). On that topic, the Birds of Prey Centre, just up the road from Millstream going towards Dullstroom, fly their rehabilitated birds there twice a day. They do really great work and it’s an amazing show, so if you can, please support them. Remember to take a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. The wildlife is rife in that area with some large game and some smaller animals that might pop up and surprise you now and then. Remember to take some carrots, fruits and mixed seeds for the hungry horses, zebras and birds. Some of them might even come visit you for a late evening snack. For the fishing folk, the dams are always fully stocked and the fish are healthy and beautiful. We caught 7 rainbow trout (all between 500g - 1.2kg) on our last trip but I know there is some brown trout as well. There are also trophy dams if you’re feeling lucky. With most of the dams you are allowed to take your catch home, but some of them are catch and release.Dullstroom itself, which is just around the corner, is full of things to see. There’s a supermarket, a butchery, a couple of liquor stores, a few nice restaurants, an old second hand bookstore, a whiskey tasting place, a crafts store, a leather accessory store, a chocolate shop, a clock shop, an antique store, a milkshake stop, a beer garden with fantastic platters and a fishing supplies store, to name a few.You will not regret visiting Millstream. It’s an excellent place to throw down your baggage/stress/worries/drama and just recharge those batteries. Remember to pack warm and cool clothing, an umbrella or waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes, the weather in Dullstroom is a fickle friend. There will be rain and sometimes lots of it, so if you like sitting outside, bring a gazebo, as there is no roof over the patio, only a single large patio umbrella. Also bring a portable braai/bbq if you’ve planned that on your menu and the weather decides to rain on your parade.

Not the 5 stars it used to be for us for many many years. Arrogant reception. Do not care attitude. Mattresses that are so worn that my wife and I felt like we were sleeping in a porridge bowl. We complained, to be told that the mattresses are new. Beautiful place but that is all. We used to go every year. Haven't been there in at least 4 years due to this and will not return. Far better places for the same price in the area.

My wife and I stayed for 7 nights in a cottage on Lake Millstream. We had a lovely time of relaxing, reading and walking around the farm. We alternated between the blue and green routes in the morning, and did the orange route around the lake every evening. The cottage is well furnished and very comfortable with a beautiful view of the lake. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time, and are looking forward to going back as soon as we can.

Millstream Farm
Beautiful place to relax, but very arrogant and unfriendly staff.Especially the receptionist. We were charged per car separately from accommodation, and we were not told that before.Nice entertainment area for kids and adults but we were told to play without making a noise..how's that possible???Won't return in a hurry...Dunkenveld and other places give better service.
