Bundu Bashers Inn, St Lucia

This is a good place for a cheap place to crash for the night. Not very clean and the rooms have almost no furnishings besides beds. But Charles, the maintenance guy, is very helpful and doing his best to improve the place.

Only visited as a day visitor. No selection of drinks. R45 for a beer in a bottle was excessive. Dirty bar which had not been cleaned in 24 hours and dirty toilets.

The Bundu Basher Inn is a low budget accommodation establishment aimed at the South African domestic tourism market. The rooms are not graded and are comfortable, clean as well as user friendly. Kitchen / cooking spaces are well placed and family friendly.The swimming pool is clean, well placed and tiled / hard surfaced and nicely fenced with locked gates to ensure in accompanied children can not get into the pool are, where adult supervision is essential, as there is no life gaurd. This is a family friendly environment who h is close to a well managed lapa.The lapa area is suitable for family gatherings and small groups under thirty folks. There are braai facilities and other cooking equipment and a fridge in the lapa .This is a true South African tourist establishment which is central within the St. Lucia tourism zone, being just 4Km out side of St. Lucia town itself. After weeks of planning and trying liaise the Bundu Bashers, there was still a mix up with the bookings for our group of friends where we had many people squeezed into rooms, and then overflowed to the dorms. All rooms were not very clean, bathrooms were really awful and you don't want to touch anything, there were streaks on the bathroom walls and the shower needed a good scrub which I asked for specifically, and the cleaning lady did do, which was a help. My bed was on bricks and the bedding does need to be replaced. Nicci is nice and very welcoming, and the bar area is cool and has a pool table.One of the other owners there had a gun tucked into his baggies most of the time and on one evening came over to us and was (abrasively) asking questions on where we came from, and when a few friends said Johannesburg, he said if he had known so many of us were from JHB he would have charged us 70% more, which obviously made us feel uncomfortable. The communal bonfire area is also nice and we had a festive new years to make the most of it, but out of 16-20 people we all agreed we definitely wouldn't go back.I'm only giving two stars because Nicci was welcoming, nothing was stolen, the bar was festive, and the bar staff were up until we wanted to go back to our rooms - so they were accommodating.

Excellent place for all type of folks. Owner is very generous and friendly. Prices are cheap and food is good. A Sunday Breakfast must!

Shannon Hawker1/519 hours ago on Google-ROOMS:* Dorm 2: 8 sets of rickety bunk beds, hardly any space to walk, disgusting bathrooms (plastered with no tiles and extremely dirty), spiders above beds, rooms dirty (they didn’t even bother to sweep the floors or dust the beds), rubbish from previous backpackers was still there* 8 chalets with 4 small kitchens (shared)* Chalets have 5/6 beds in them, with one bathroom. The room is divided into 2 parts - a small area with 2 single beds squashed in, and a larger part with a double bed and set of bunk beds. Depending on your vibe, these rooms are optimal for 2 people - not 6!!* Only 1 roll of toilet paper per toilet per stay.* Some taps broken.* Cockroaches in bedroom* Spiders in room* Bring your own kitchen utensils (hardly any are provided and it’s inconsistent between the rooms so you don’t know what you’re going to get)* Chalets are dirty, even after the best efforts from the cleaners.* Showers are extremely dirty and full of mold - bring slip slops to shower!* Basic bedding provided - bed bugs free of charge!* Be careful when bring your own bedding because some of our pillow cases were taken to be washed but never returned.* One unit is air conditioned, one unit has broken aircon and others have nothing.* No fans in other rooms and the rooms are very hot due to very few windowsFACILITIES:* False advertising:- Not a BnB- No restaurant* Pool was green* Braai’s provided* Poorly stocked bar* Bartender very sweet and kind, but completely confused when it comes to running the bar. A bar tab was given as a cash number (approx R1200) with no line items, and hardly any drinks were even had at the bar so we are not sure what they were charging us for.* A second bar tab (Approx R400) was given after NYE after we had purposefully boycotted the bar so absolutely no one ordered anything from the bar.* AVOID THE BAR AT ALL COSTS OR ONLY USE CASH TO AVOID CONFUSION. You’ll probably get a bill anyway it seems.* Pool table is nice* Nice outdoor bonfire area* Grass not mowedMANAGEMENT:We dealt with Nicci for our bookings and the following happened:* quotes were mixed up* bookings were cancelled/forgotten* we paid deposit for 6 chalets and only got 5 on arrival (Nicci didn’t care that we had to share and still pay full price)* Nicci said the showers were dirty because the accommodation is close to the ocean (absolute rubbish!). She proceeded to ask US to tell the cleaners to clean better instead of managing her OWN STAFF! (After admitting to us that she was hungover - so unprofessional)* One of the owners/managers (who was extremely drunk) made “jokes” (more like threats) that because we are from JHB they should have charged us more. He was also carrying a gun.* We were given an invoice made on Microsoft Word that looked NOTHING like the invoices we received Pre-booking. The numbers were made-up and didn’t even slightly resemble our actual booking amounts and outstanding amounts. They seemed to have no idea what was going on.It’s an absolute sh*t show run by incompetent, money-hungry people. I wouldn’t go back if you paid me!(Only gave 1 star as I couldn’t post a review with no stars)

By far the worst accommodation I've ever stayed in run by probably the most incompetent, unprofessional and disorganized people on the planet.
The photos that have been posted by the owners on Google are nothing like what the place is like in real life. We booked two chalets" for 3 couples which we were charged for per person per night. The "chalets" are actually mini dorm rooms which have 5-6 beds crammed in. It is literally one room with an en suite bathroom. The bedding is old and worn. The walls haven't been painted in years. There's air conditioning in the "chalets" but none of them work. We had to buy our own fans otherwise we would never have been able to sleep in that stuffy dungeon. The kitchen is communal as it's shared with the "chalet" next door. Don't expect much from the kitchen either. The bathrooms were shocking. The showers were full of mold. Since we were paying R250 per person per night

Definitely recommend, such an awesome and relaxing spot. Bundu Bashers is such a welcoming vibe... Can't wait to go back!!

Absolutely filthy and disgusting. Blankets were mouldy and smelly. Bathroom was black with mould. No kettle. No hot water. No microwave. Everything smelled. Bed was like rock. Looked nothing like the pictures. Booked for 2 nights. Only slept there one night and that was only because it was stormy and too late to find other accommodation. I hated every minute of it. Absolute torture!!!! So disgustingly filthy and putrid that even the cockroaches stayed away from this place. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!! I wish there were on TripAdvisor so that I could tell more people. Camping is luxury compared to this piece of hell on earth. No even worth half a star. Only put one star because it wouldn't allow me to post this review without a star.

Drove by and saw the water slide. They were very kind to switch on the water slide for our 2 children. Kids loved sliding. But the accommodation is not for our taste. If you're young and broke, I suppose...but would not advise for anyone else. Puty cause it has potential.
